Great Gift, No Sweat

Sometimes it is very handy to make more quilts than I know what to do with.  I made this top back in April, 2007.  I had it quilted by the fabulous folks at Prairie Queens, and then packed it in tissue and put it away.  Sometimes I make quilts just because I love the fabrics or want to experiment with a pattern.  As pretty as this quilt is, it just didn't really fit into my decor.  Plus it is a lap size (or generous crib size), and those are tricky to put into use sometimes. So, I knew this quilt wasn't meant for me, but someday the time would come when the person it was meant to be for would appear.

Well, the day has come for this quilt to go home.  I know a young couple who is expecting a baby this month, and they have decorated their baby girl's nursery in that exact lime green color in the quilt top.  I think this quilt needs to move to Tennessee and be little Sophia's.  It was meant to be.

Pattern called Elegant Garden from Evelyn Sloppy's wonderful book 40 Fabulous Quick Cut Quilts.  Fabric from a group called Sanctuary for Moda from a few summers ago.

  13. That is really a great idea! Make a quilt because you love the fabric and pattern. Then just wait till it finds a home. It’s really so pretty and baby will love it.

    And yes you saw a mistake on my quilt, but it wasn’t the one I was referring to. I switched two ninepatches.

  33. Thanks, Nicole. I always feel guilty about making a quilt just because I’ve fallen in love with a fabric. I’m happy to learn I’m not the only one. So good to hear that you were able to pass along one of your beautiful creations.

  35. The quilt is lovely, as is the idea. I now have one quilt I really like but doesn’t fit my house that is waiting for someone and am getting ready to start a baby quilt for some unknown someday baby. I just like making quilts.
