Now that Elizabeth is all done (except for those last borders), I thought I would pull out another piecing project I started a few months ago. My Mojo/Ridiculously Cute Basket Blocks. I had completed all but three blocks; 33 out of the 36 I needed for the top. But, what the heck?
Where were my units for the last three blocks? I looked high and low. I looked everywhere I possibly could have mislaid them. (Except for the boxes I packed and put into storage last month when I was cleaning out my sewing room). I could not find those units anywhere.
This is a good example of why it is a good idea to have a bit more fabric than you actually need. In case of an emergency such as this! Whew. I was able to make three more 4 1/2 inch half square triangles for the basket bases and cut out the yellow polka dot for the side and top units. Thank goodness I still had all the 2 1/2 inch half square triangles in my project box. But even if I had lost them as well, I think I could have squeaked by, making more out of my leftover fabric.
So glad I was able to pull that one out of the fire. Tomorrow I will get those last three basket blocks finished and get going on the scrappy lattices.
Update on the home front: morale is low, but we have not abandoned hope. My husband is very resourceful, and I am confident he will rise like a Phoenix after the latest setback of being laid off yet again.

Sorry to hear about the lay off. My DH and I have been thru it twice in our marriage and it’s no fun. Hang in there.

What pattern are you using for these baskets? Ridiculously cute!
Hang in there! It took us until the day before we were ready to give up the house we were building and all the $$ in it before we sold our last house. Oh my – so much stress. But hey I will take one day!

Hi Nicole, the low morale is a totally normal reaction to this second (that I know of) set back you and your husband have encountered. You survived the first and will survive this as well – all of your blogging “pals” are keeping their fingers crossed for a speedy solution – it had better be as we need those fingers to quilt.

Good luck with the job.
No worries about the missing pieces. You’ll find them as soon as you’re done with the quilt!

Ah..Simple Abundance, I love it and MoJo….how could you stop with only 3 blocks to go!!! That green dot background is perfect.
I hope you have more good days than bad this week. Enjoy your time with your husband while you have it. He was back to work in no time last summer and the economy is better now.

I’m glad you were able to construct the last three blocks. I can’t wait to see how it looks when it is finished.
God has something in the works for hubby, I just know it. Keep the faith!!!

So what is your Ridiculously Cute Pattern????? It looks spenderiferous. And ridiculously cute.
Keep the faith with your hubby. Mine has been out since January and is currently doing census work. If he can figure out how to cap an underwater oil well, we’ll be golden — until then, it’s one day at a time.

Yes, I’m sure it takes awhile to regroup after such a bummer of a surprise. It would also be great though if he joined forces with Pat’s DH and fixed that dang well!
You both are industrious workers so I agree with you heartily..it is a bump in the road that you will figure a way over. Thoughts and prayers for both of you.
In the meantime..good work on the quilt. That fabric is pretty and sweet 🙂

I have that pattern too and some ideas for it, but just too many other things in front of it for now. Can’t wait to see how yours turns out.
Fingers crossed for your hubby to locate something–and fast–low morale isn’t “a good thing”.

I always love your latest and greatest project! I love the fabrics, your baskets are going to be so cute! I liked what you worked on over the weekend too… and um, why didn’t you ask me to go shopping with you?

Can’t wait to see it completed! I am still having nightmares over squaring up all my little Picnic triangles, but it is really pretty!

Adorable baskets, Nicole. Can’t wait to see it finished. 😉
A challenging time in your life but things will be better in time.

Glad you had enough fabric to make those extra blocks.
Good luck to your DH. My DH worked interstate while your DH worked away too. Luckily my DH has work here at home now. I hope your DH finds work in your hometown soon too.
