The stars must not be aligned properly. I'll tell you this block took me a couple of tries. Every possible piece I could have turned wrong, I did. Repeatedly. I finally had re-sewn the block so many times it was all floppy and covered with little thread bits. I was ready to throw in the towel and just try again another day, but I had this blog post to get out, so I persevered. I tossed the first block and started over again from the beginning, with much better results.
This troublesome fellow is block 11 from the Piecing the Past "Comfort and Joy" sew-along. They call it Double Star, but it definitely has other names. In fact, it was featured in the Moda BlockHeads 1 sew-along by another name. "Honeymoon", I think it was called. I don't recall having so much trouble with it when I made it back then. Just wasn't my day yesterday I guess.
Here are all three of the blocks for this week. At the top is block 12 "Fox and Geese" and on the right is block 10 "Star of Hope".
Have you all been doing more online shopping lately? I know I miss shopping for things in person, but my spending has been a little nuts lately due to boredom and wishing for better days. I keep buying books, even though my concentration is not it's best. I recently ordered several pairs of sandals, fantasizing about wearing them to the pool or to visit friends. Oddly, I have not been buying fabric, which is a good thing I guess. I even purchased three (three) cosmetics to enhance my non-existent eye-brows, because heaven knows I can't go out without eyebrows. For goodness sake. I sure hope my favorite checker at Savemart appreciates the effort I am making.
I am sure there are good psychological reasons for this non-essential purchasing. Or maybe I simply want to do something that someone can't forbid. Just don't tell my husband.

I think we’re all yearning for a little normalcy and are imagining that each in our own way. And now, you’ve made me wish for sandals. Ha, ha!

I purchased a sweatshirt & two t-shirts several weeks ago. I got that idea from a picture a friend texted me featuring the sweatshirt–got to the website & ‘had to have’ the t-shirts, too. One for me & one for…not sure yet, but I’ll figure it out! And now, I’m heading over to the sandal website–Vionics are my new favorites! Thanks for the idea! Your secret is safe with us! Stay well!

I know I just want my routine back and that is making me a bit anxious. I started a new paper piecing project yesterday. All my fabric hoarding is paying off. Just so unsettling. One day at a time everyone. this too shall pass. Soon I hope.

Love that star, might have to try that out. Yours looks super even if it required a second go round. Have ordered on-line a bit this week. Weather has gotten above 90 on occasion so it’s definitely sandal time in N. TX. Have my eye on a few. I ordered books, some dental replacements that I can’t get locally, and some backing fabric for a completed quilt, also another jelly roll for a quilt I ran out on. I also placed my second order for grocery pickup at Walmart. That’s the only local grocer here. I’ve definitely found a new way to do groceries. I may never haul a cart around a grocery store again. I don’t buy meat there but everything else is on the computer or phone and it’s mercifully easy. It’s my outing of the week unless my it’s to see my son and family. Found mornings to be cool and shaded on my patio so cleaned some chairs and love to “get out” of the house while it’s mild outside.

That is a lovely block. I’ve bought a new braising pan and new summer pjs. That’s about it. At the beginning of the stay home order I did buy several wool patterns and more wool.
The loss of life and the economic devastation is just crushing to think about. Crushing.

I am enjoying you’re blog post I love you’re fabric choices. I have also been following the same block releases as well. We have that in common. I am doing only groceries and no online order as of yet. I need to get out of the house every ten days or so. I have been sewing and working on computer projects as well. I am receiving more email jokes that seem to be an old way of communicating that has resurfaced during the covid.
Keep up the excellent work and sharing.

Your finished block is gorgeous. I’m sorry you had so much trouble with it but glad you persisted. I hope you feel it was worth it!
