Instagram Inspiration

Do you browse Instagram and Pinterest?  I have heard those sites are overtaking blogging in popularity and are a great source of information and inspiration.  Being a wordy sort of person, I will never give up blogging, as I like to write too much.  I do however, love to see what's going on with folks and am always amazed at the ideas out there.

Last week, during my 48 hour sewing slump, I got such a great idea for a new project from Instagram.  Once again I found myself wanting to copycat Donna Kirk from Mtnrosedesign.  Donna is a prolific quilter and designer.  If you have a chance, search for her on Instagram and you will see why I am in such awe of her work.  Donna had resurrected an older Miss Rosie pattern called Looking Glass and is making her version with a collection of Lexington fabrics by Minick and Simpson.

My fabric photo above isn't so great due to lighting issues, but that is a stash of mainly Old Glory Gatherings by Primitive Gatherings.  My fat eighth bundle had been tucked back in a corner of the stash closet and was finally rediscovered by me.  Of course I had the pattern on hand (I must buy every single Miss Rosie pattern ever put out).

I was in the mood to work on something seasonal, and got to work cutting out my strips.

An afternoon later, most of my nine patches are done.  Wait until you see how this quilt is going to come together.  I am having trouble wrapping my head around it, but I know the light will dawn on me.

  1. Love the Looking Glass pattern and the array of delightful fabrics you’re using for your version of this wonderful quilt. I had to look at the enlarged pattern for several minutes (no coffee yet) to deduce how it’s made, but methinks I figured it out. It’s brilliant!
I’ve never been on Instagram, FB, or Pinterest and wonder if I’m the only one on the planet who hasn’t. Your blog has all the inspiration I need. I still want to make my version of your red/while Snowball and Toulouse. 🙂
    Hugs!

  7. Although I am still blogging (not as much)
and reading blogs, I do LOVE instagram. It’s fast, you can add a few words and it a great way to show the “in the moment” I do agree about the blogging, you can discuss process, techniques and it’s far more interactive. #grassrootsquilting if you want to peek at my IG pics.

  10. I came across her site just two weeks ago and fell head over heels for a project she is doing as part of a quilt kit “test run.”
Then I came across the quilt blocks she’s doing for Looking Glass and loved that project too. I am a self confessed sucker for nine patch quilts and admire how quickly
yours came together. I also confess to spending way to much time hopping around on instagram.

  13. I wonder who has more Miss Rosie patterns … you or Carrie;-) Love how this quilt is coming together, red-white-blue is always a great color option. And I’m happy to say that my Green Tea and Sweet Beans quilt is finally growing again:-)

  16. I love Instagram and find it so easy to use to keep up with everyone. However, I personally do not see it as a replacement to blogging.
Love the Looking Glass quilt. Your fabric choices look almost patriotic. Can’t wait to see how it comes together.

  19. I don’t do FB or Pinterest but I have joined the ranks of Instagram. My daughter put it on my phone when she traveled to Russia. It was great keeping up with her travels, and now I keep up with the quilting world 🙂
