It Is All Catching Up With Me…

Christmas will be here in one week.  I still have some gifts to wrap, last-minute things to pick up, a school performance to attend, cookies to bake, menus to plan and shop for, my son arriving from Ireland today, a guest room to get ready, and I have Eva overnight because her parents are entertaining their employees.  And I am pretty sure I forgot a few things, like my manicure appointment and my date to walk with friends on Friday.

And three more of these to make:

These little triangle pouches are such fun to make, can be finished in a jiffy and people seem to love them for carrying lip balm, hand sanitizer, or even earbuds for audio devices. I attach lobster hooks on little tabs so folks can clip them to whatever.  I have given two away as teacher gifts, so they aren't in the photo, for a total of nine made so far.  I need to make three more, by my calculations and think I can just about manage that.  It is a nice little "extra" gift to tuck in a bag.  Especially if you put something fun inside it.  It is bad luck to give a zippy bag without something in it, don't you know?  If anyone is interested in a tutorial, I took lots of photos while I was constructing them, so I could do that.

Eva and I made an astonishing mess making spritz cookies for her to give her parents and grandparents in the little tins above. I found them at Savemart and think they will be perfect.  They are small, so they won't hold a ton of cookies, which is good.  The little spritz cookies will be perfect.  The lids are see-through, which is kind of fun. It is amazing how we totaled the kitchen much fun we had making those things.  I will be sweeping up sprinkles for the next six months, but it was worth it.

Oh!  And I totally forgot to share with you this adorable little wool kit I bought from Shabby Fabrics!  It arrived yesterday and I cannot wait to start it in the New Year.  The pattern is easy (beginner-friendly)  and adorable, and the wool included is so pretty.  It may have just slipped into my shopping cart while I was shopping for other people.

Are you relaxing right now and enjoying the days up to the holidays, or are you totally overcommitted and frazzled?  There must be a balance we could strive for.  I'll get the essentials done in the next two days, and then I swear, I am going to chill out and enjoy my son's visit.

  1. You may find sprinkles for another six months, but you’ll have great memories of making cookies with your granddaughter that will last longer than six months! You’re lucky to have her living so close by.
Since my husband and I live in western Canada, my Christmas shopping and wrapping is finished by early December because I mail everything to the east coast and want to ensure that it reaches everyone in time for Christmas. I’ve been told that I should order online and have everything shipped directly, but secretly, I love wrapping gifts!
That wool kit is adorable and I would love a tutorial on making the triangle pouches.

  4. Awesome looking spritz cookies. Mine never seem to be that consistent, especially after the first batch. Any tricks for getting them onto the cookie sheet?

  7. Christmas prep is winding down, a few gifts to wrap still. Don’t need to bring food this year to family gathering so there’s a break. Love your little bags, might like to see how that’s done, especially with such a tiny zipper. Hope your Christmas is perfect, and feel sure it will be with both your son and daughter in the picture. Thanks again for your wonderful blog. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  10. I’d love the tutorial – but you get all your chilling done first – there’s plenty of time in the new year for tutorials. Merry Christmas!

  16. I can’t think of anything better than baking cookies & helping Eva with her Christmas gifts. Then, Ahren arriving? You’re a lucky mom & grandma! Be sure to give Ozzie a merry Christmas treat from all of his fans! Yes, please…I’d love to see that triangle bag tutorial once the confetti settles after the New Year!

  19. There are two parts to the Christmas schedule:
    1. I have lots of time.
    2. Oh no!
It is always a bit of sprint for me in the last few days, but at least we’re having fun!

  25. I would love to see your tutorial on making those cute little pouches (after Christmas). Tree spritz cookies are our favorite Christmas cookies. Haven’t made them yet, cuz we would just eat them all before we can get together with the kids and share. Christmas HUGS… and merry stitches!

  37. Merry Christmas! Your little triangle pouches are adorable. Great idea to put lobster clips on them. I use mine to separate my small knitting notions. You’ve inspired me to make a few more. The cookies you made with Eva look wonderful and the tins look just perfect. The kit looks fun and perfect for putting on display for winter.
