It is raining stars here. I won't say I am getting a lot faster, but cutting my scraps bigger than recommended is helping me out. Paper piecing is a lot less fiddly if you have more fabric to work with. And less fiddling means more fun. Four more to go, and perhaps I will get this little topper together in a day or so.
I have a light week in terms of other responsibilities. Eva is on a mini-vacation with her daddy and his new wife and her stepsister. They are going to stay in a mountain lodge that recently reopened for business. The new couple didn't get to take their honeymoon as their reservations at their timeshare were canceled, so it is nice that this worked out.
As soon as I finish my little stars topper I want to get going on making 4 1/2 inch log cabin blocks with my new Creative Grids Log Cabin Trim Tool.
This is what the ruler looks like. There are a lot of squares and lines printed on it that you line up before trimming each round. Creative Grids has a YouTube tutorial that shows you how to use this tool about five different ways. The video is less than five minutes long and I highly recommend you watch it and see how easy this block can be with the right tool.
If four-inch blocks still feel intimidating, there are a six-inch and an eight-inch ruler available as well. They also offer one that is a combo six-inch and twelve-inch tool! There is even a trim tool to make Curvy Log Cabin blocks.
There are so many projects you can make with these. I have so many ideas bouncing around in my head right now!

I think getting a new ruler is just as fun as buying new fabric! I just ordered the four and six inch log cabin rulers and can’t wait to get them 😉 Have fun with your new ruler!

Your stars are perfect! Can’t wait to see your finished project. I have several of those rulers. Log cabin blocks are my favorite to work on when I just need some down time to sew the stress away.

I once watched a woman do paper piecing without cutting small chunks of fabric. She took whatever size piece she had, found a straight edge, used that and cut it off after folding over.
This method saved her a lot of time cutting up the big piece. She also didn’t have the problem of the too small piece that didn’t cover the area when she folded it over. I thought she was clever.
Thank you for showing this pattern in your blog. I have been looking for this star for a while but couldn’t figure out where I’d seen it. I have the book and marked the page now so I won’t lose it again.
I have used the small curvy log cabin tool. It worked out nicely.

Creative Grids rulers are some of my favorites. The stars are looking great & I’m wondering what color you’ll make that fourth row! Enjoy your week creating! Stay well!

That tiny Log Cabin block is adorable! Can’t wait to see the tiny table topper you make with it.
I love how much your family works together to make sure everyone gets along. What a gift for Eva know how many people love her. It may not be much of a honeymoon for the newly married couple but they will have a wonderful story to tell their grandkids.
“Honeymoon? What honeymoon? It was 2020 and the world was going through a pandemic! We were all just trying to get groceries safely so you young kids should stop complaining and be grateful you get to go on a honeymoon!”
