It’s Not My Eye, It’s My Nose

Well.  For goodness sake.

I just got home from seeing the doctor, and the problem I have isn't with my eye, it is with my sinuses.  I have chronic troubles there, and those issues can affect other nearby areas within the face.

He says I have polyps in my sinus cavities, and that is causing all my woes.  Did I mention that I have lost my sense of smell?  Very weird, and inconvenient.  Lots of eye watering, nose blowing, snoring, and congestion.  And I have let it go on way too long.  Until my eye swelled shut, good grief.  Why are sinus issues so easy to ignore?  I am scheduled for a CT scan next week, and will probably have minor surgery to get myself fixed up.

So, that's the answer believe it or not!

On a more cheery note, I have resigned from one of my part time jobs (the fun one that didn't pay so well).  My remaining job will occupy me for about 24 hours a week, and guess what I will be doing with my extra free time?

You guessed it!  It involves fabric….

  1. Glad you found an answer to your recent woes. I am amazed you didn’t mention a headache with the eye swelling/sinus congestion. Did you get prescribed an antibiotic? Hopefully after a bit of sinus surgery, you will be back to “good as new”.
Does that mean you resigned from Talbots? And give up the discount?
I’m lovin those batiks in the picture!! Have restful weekend!!

  5. Hi Nicole. I have a friend who had surgery 10 days ago for what sounds like a similar problem. I thought I would let you know that she is doing very, very well. She actually went to lunch and shopping the second day after the first set of packing was removed by the doctor. She was in terrible shape prior to finally going for repair. It is so wonderful that now we have so many procedures that can be done in a surgi-center on an outpatient basis. Good luck. I’ll be checking in.

  7. Nice that you’ve been able to identify the problem, and it’s fixable. Nice that you’ll have more play time, too. And – what a luscious picture you have today on your blog.

  9. I’ve had sinus troubles in the past and when I was suffering from a particularly bad bout of sinus headaches, wanted to cut my head clear off! Fingers crossed that your problem will ease without surgery. Glad you pinpointed what it was.
Oh, and the cutting from 3 part time jobs to 1? Green with envy!!!!

  19. No sense of smell..how long has that been gong on, yikes! Well I’m glad there’s a solution, I hope it all goes well. Does Andrea have sinus problems too?
I’m sure Talbots will miss you, it’s hard to find personable, neat, attractive folks who have command of the English language and math skills. Their loss is our gain, I can hardly wait to see what you accomplish in your sewing room.
I hope you get to feeling better this weekend.

I bet playing with fabric will be very therapeutic after your surgery:)

  23. Use sinus surgery as a last resort. Start using a saline rinse….it truly, truly helps alot! Seriously! I was freaked out the first time I had to rinse my sinus cavities but I tell you it helps tremendously! :0)
The way I know that my sinus’ get bad is when I think I need a dental exam. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve run to the dentist thinking I need a root canal or something.

  25. Thanks for the post. I knew sinuses could bother your teeth but never thought about the eyes. Ugh. I think lots of people have been worrying about you. Glad this can be taken care of and then you are on to good things. Best of luck!

  29. Nicole,
Good to hear they pinpointed the root problem of your eye situation. WoW–what a process to get to the bottom of things. Is there an infection in your sinus as well as the polyp situation? Sorry to hear the fun job is by the wayside. But sounds like it will be better for you in the long run. Any change that means more fabric in the hands has to be positive. 🙂
    Take good care of yourself!

  33. With all that spare time, I hope you’re planning to fly to Alabama and fold up all my fabric and stack it and make it pretty like that. LOL! I have sinus problems too, but have never had polyps or surgery. They have caused my right eardrum to cave in making me almost deaf in my right ear.

  35. Will you get your sense of smell back? It would be odd not to smell things, but I think in some instances, it would be a good thing. I hope you can get your sinus problems fixed with little trouble.
