I’ve Got the Blues

IMG_1080

Now, I am not saying that I am going to get this done by the August 1 Two Color Quilt Challenge, but gosh, am I in love with this block.  I stole was inspired by the idea posted on Patti's blog last week.  She did this 64 block quilt top for the Two Color Challenge all in reds and whites.  If you haven't had a look at her quilt, go check it out.

I had all the fabric I needed to do this quilt right in my stash.  No purchase necessary.  On her blog, Patti gives a method for making the half square triangles in a manner that I have previously stated I hated.  However, I am trying it out again, and have to say that once I get in the rhythm of it, I am actually enjoying the process.  She does a great tutorial on the block construction on her blog.

On a sad note, Patti's beloved dog Shadow passed away last week.  She may need a cyber hug.

Here is a photo of some of my blue and white stash:

It is piled on the floor because the table, the bed and every other surface in my sewing room is covered with Works In Progress.  When our company was here on Saturday someone had the bright idea to ask for a tour of the house.  Ouch.  Talk about embarrassing, when I opened the door to this chamber of horrors.  Have you ever noticed how often the word "tedious" comes up when non-quilters get an idea of what our passion involves?  Sigh.  I guess it isn't for everyone.

Here are a couple of things I am working on this week, with the notion of a Friday Finish in mind:

Moda U pattern for Rhubarb and Ginger, which calls for 25 blocks.  I am nearly there!

And here we have Jelly Roll Junction using Madeira fabrics shown on one of my Design Beds:

Happy sewing everyone!

  3. I am definitely savoring your Blog lately. I have all the symptoms – drifting off, daydreaming, staring, returning again and again thinking. Thinking yum.

  5. Do you have any time management tips for me? I am having quite a time trying to figure out how you manage to do so much. I believe you and I have the same number of days in the week, right? Seven, more or less? So how do you do so much more than I do? :o)

  7. There must be smoke coming out of your machine with all that you are getting done. I love everything that you have showed today. I missed the Rhubarb and Ginger line, but I love that one. I have a tumbler quilt in progress made with the Madeira line. I have ordered the book that Patti used for her quilt. Blogging can be dangerous on the pocket book.:)

  13. Love the blue and white – fresh!
I made that Moda U quilt a couple of years ago and thankfully it’s quilted and residing in the Red cabinet. 🙂
Love the jelly roll project, too.

  15. Another lovely quilt. Every time I look at your blog I think, “I have to get to work on some of my UFO’s too!” Thanks for the inspiration.

  17. Chamber of Horrors? I think not. A magical playground is more like it! I ADORE your Rhubarb & Ginger quilt. I meant to ask you if that’s the Moda U kit (which I have on the “to do someday” list).

  19. Love all of the quilts – they are looking fabulous. Funny, I just told someone what I needed to do to finish a quilt – and she used the word tedious, as well. I’ve never thought of it that way at all.

  21. All the blocks are gorgeous, Nicole. Has your sewing machine slung a rod yet? Poor Ozzie; I’ll bet he has just given up getting any attention by now.
Oh, and it’s understood at my house that my sewing room is off limits for anyone except my very most intimate acquaintances–like Sophie and Vann.

I’m feeling more and more inadequate as you get so much done lately!

  25. Everything looks so super! I can’t wait to see the gorgeous blue stars done. The Rhubarb and Ginger is gorgeous!
Non-quilters just don’t get it. I hear comments like “How do you have the patience to do that?” They don’t realize how much fun it is!

  29. I have the blues now. And a hankering for Rhubarb and Ginger and some Madiera, too! I love it all! I can’t imagine anyone thinking your sewing room is a “chamber of horrors”. To me it is a place of inspiration and joy!

  31. You girls have GOT to stop posting these fabulous quilts. Seriously-I am thinking of dropping everything I am doing, including eating, and starting one of these quilts. I used a lot of the rhubarb and ginger in that fall quilt I finished recently. I use the word “finished” loosly since it is still waiting for binding!

  35. That’s what it is, a design bed. I’m off to tell my hubby! You’ve got a bunch of projects going. It all looks fabulous. I especially love the blue and white. Striking!

  37. You are so ambitious! Everything is just skipping along. Go Blue! I totally dig that las quilt though. Love it. My husband was telling me what a thread nightmare my room was and that he (who truly is not handy) would gladly try to lay hardwood floors if I would let him. I WISH we were at a place to do that right now…because I would let him! Hold your head high….creativity is not a neat thing!

  41. I love to visit your blog and see what you are working on. I love the blue and white quilt but the others are beautiful, too. Whenever I see your projects I want to stop whatever I’m doing and work on mine. Life is going other directions to fast so that’s not going to happen for awhile. But you inspire me all the time. ~Adrienne~

  45. You must be one of those people who only need four hours of sleep a night. Right? How else can you get so much accomplished — and find time to blog about it! Whatever your secret, you inspire me every day, and I’m ever so grateful!

  51. I’m really liking those diagonally split star blocks. It gives you all of the log cabin layout opportunities. The floral star one is neat too. You are making me want to start another quilt.
