Well, that was intense! 100 blocks in fifteen days. Whew. I got it done though, and am glad I can sew the blocks together and call this a finish. I did end up changing out some of the fabrics in the last blocks. As we got closer to the center of the quilt, the colors got darker in tone. It was an easy fix and only involved the large brown half-square triangle blocks. That is the thing with mystery quilts. If you don't know what is coming, you can't choose your fabrics so efficiently. It is actually a good idea to lag a few days behind or even start the project once it is over and you can see if you like it.
I have never been a fan of mystery quilts, but ended up liking this one. Plus I figured I am self-isolating, am bored and trapped at home with bins and bins of fabric I need to use up. Why not sew along?
If you are just checking in and wondering what this sew along was all about–It was hosted by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts and all instructions can be found on her blog. The blocks are all pretty simple, but she also offers YouTube tutorials that are linked in her pattern instructions.
100% of these fabrics were from my stash. The background was some Moda neutral print I had a lot of and the tan, red and browns were 3 Sisters fabrics from a couple of their older collections: Aster Manor and Chocolat. I plan to put a containment border of the neutral fabric and then a wider dark brown border of one of the larger floral prints. I am thinking the finished size should be around 72" square.
I am pleased as can be with it, because I needed a quilt to give as a wedding gift in a couple of months and this will work out perfectly.
It is amazing what you can do if you force yourself to spend a couple of hours a day in your sewing room.
We are having the rainstorm of the century here on Sunday as I write this. Ozzie is wandering around shaking and drooling because thunder terrifies him. It made for great sewing, but I am taking a break because I have no doubt the power will go out any minute. This next week there will be lots of sewing (if all goes according to plan) because Eva is on "Spring Break" and is splitting the time between her mom's and her dad's. Time for me to make some progress on the fourteen new projects I have started.
Eva and I have finished our jigsaw puzzle. It was super fun, and definitely addicting. I went online to order more, and evidently puzzles are a hot commodity right now. Everyone and their brother wants one to work on while cooped up inside! I finally found a couple that I liked that were in stock, and they might be here within a month!
Hope you had a great weekend. Talk to you tomorrow.
Well that was good timing. As predicted, the power just went out. It is the end of the world I tell you.

Wow Nicole what an accomplishment! I love your mystery quilt…I fell in love with the three sisters fabric lines around the time I first started reading your blog and have made several quilts with them.
I have been busy with customer quilts but will take a break this week to make masks for family and friends…I have a huge stash of batiks and with the new recommendations it seems a wise use of that stash.
Once I finish that I will load and quilt the baby quilt for our little angel who is due to arrive May 4th!
Enjoy your day!

As usual, your quilt top is stunning. Amazing what you have in your fabric collection! I’ve picked up a lot of Charles Wysocki puzzles at Goodwill when they were open. I’m still hesitant to start working on one – I’m up to my neck in sewing face masks right now.

Your mystery quilt will become a beautiful wedding gift! I’m not a fan of mystery quilts either, as I’ve done only one and was sorely disappointed in the results.

Great finish Nicole, I like the darker center and the blocks fanning out from there. Thanks to you and JAN for the muffin-type coffee cake recipe. Will be trying that soon so as not to let the lemons I still have fall by the wayside. Love Laundry Basket quilts, but they usually have more and smaller pieces than Bonnie’s. I am nearly done with my TX Twister blocks, in fact will start sewing them together today while I stitch the last of the alternate blocks. Yay!

Your quilt is beautiful & will make a treasured wedding gift! Win-win in my book! Our local airport is unable to get masks for staff & rescue crew so I spent the weekend making some for them. Our fiber arts group can’t meet today so we’re having an online show & tell of projects during stay-at-home time. So happy to share the recipe & that Stephani is thinking about making the blueberry muffin cake! Comfort food, for sure! Stay well!

Beautiful quilt! I also used from my stash of Fig Tree fabric. I also didn’t get the center fabrics chosen best, but I really wanted to use stash so it is what it is. Still pretty, but not the impact of the original. Hope you enjoy all the other sew alongs just as much!

Awesome! Yours looks wonderful and good job getting all your blocks done! I had hoped to keep up but have already found myself changing up the fabrics I wanted to use and I’m only on blocks #2, #3 and #4! Great opportunity to use up stash though. The recipients will be thrilled!
