In 2003, the craziest movie came out–Les Triplettes de Belleville. It was a combined international effort on the part of France, Belgium, Quebec and the UK. It was advertised as a full length animated surreal adventure film and was a huge hit at the Cannes Film Festival. The sound track is very catchy, particularly the title track. Roughly, the plot concerns a guy who is kidnapped while participating in the Tours de France. His grandmother hits the road in search of him, aided by a set of aging triplets whose musical career has hit the skids. Mmmm hmmm, now that is a likely sounding plot if I ever heard one. Suspend belief people. It makes things more entertaining. (I should note that although the soundtrack is kinda fun, I have not seen the movie. My husband and I saw the trailers and he refused to see it, since it looked to be extremely weird).
What the heck does this have to do with anything Nicole? Well, I am getting to that.
About two years ago I started a quilting project called Toulouse, a wonderful Miss Rosie pattern. For whatever reason, I put the project away. I take it out now and then and visit with it. It has never been far from my mind, and I have even had the one block I completed on display in my sewing room.
Isn't that a great looking block pattern? I agree. Simply love it.
Well, it turns out that my friends Lisa (Stashmaster) and Thelma (Cupcakes and Daisies) are both making Toulouse. Has there ever been a better reason for getting my project box out and getting that quilt top done? I don't think so.
I tell you it pays to be organized sometimes. Here are my block units, mostly made–rail fence, nine patch and half square triangles. Still loads to be done, but it feels like some Good Fairy has gotten a great start on this quilt project for me. One block done, eight to go. Some flying geese and a pieced lattice and there you are.
So, I am joining up with Lisa and Thelma and plan to get this quilt done! Hence: Les Triplettes de Toulouse! Get it? Lisa, Thelma and Nicole? Hello?
Seriously that title cut on the movie soundtrack is seriously catchy. Belleville Rendez-vous. Makes me want to shake my booty if I only had one.

OK Nicole this is getting seriously weird. We both owned Fox Terriers, when you posted your Christmas photos of your house I turned to my husbanded and said,”Look, she has almost the exact same material on her couch as we do”. And now you are posting about one of my favourite CDs. My sister-in-law who use to live in Quebec suggested the sound track to me. Even though my French is only passable I sing along to the CD in my car all the time. Belleville Rendez-vous always puts me in a great mood (I’m not quite sure what they’re singing – Vodoo Kaka?) I am so glad you are suggesting it to your readers!

Ok – the movie. I just watched it about 2 weeks ago. That had to be the weirdest movie I’ve seen a long time. I kept thinking to myself, this could be time I spent on quilting. Oh well, have a good one.

It’s Voo-Doo Can-Can, actually, and Nicole, promise me you’ll see it sometime when hubby isn’t around, it’s great! Weird, yes, but so funny. It features one of the greatest low-speed chases EVER. And the dog’s dreams are so surreal… and of course in black and white. I love that movie! And the soundtrack will make a whole lot more sense if you see the show.

oh Nicole, I love that block. That will be a beautiful Christmas quilt for you to enjoy. I think that sounds like fun to have
2 other quiltmates working on the same quilt for inspirition to keep at it.
I haven’t heard of the movie. Sounds funny–
my husband is really into the tour de france so maybe he would get into the movie.
Hope you feel yourself real soon.

Seriously, you need to see this movie. I loved it. There are many catchy tunes but my favorite was where they make music with whatever they had like a refrigerator. Great animation too.

Love the quilt! It deserves to be finished! And if you don’t have any “booty”, I have plenty and I’ll share!

I can hardly wait to get my first block completed, I just love yours. It will be so fun to see how these triplets turn out, yours with the scrappy white background, mine with the red on cream background and Lisa’s with the blue on cream.
Here’s to Les Triplettes de Toulouse!!

Glad to see you are back on your game, Nicole. have to get that pattern; good for a holiday quilt…or maybe florals…or…stop me, please! I have at least 20 UFO’s! If you like some fun French music, you should try the soundtrack to Amelie–I just love that waltz theme.
