Les Triplettes de Toulouse Reveal~

001

How happy am I with this Toulouse quilt top?  VERY happy.  In the words of Ma Ramatswe "I am veddy happy Rrraa".  What does the Botswanan detective have to do with anything?  Nothing, I just like the way she talks.  And, you gotta admit, she seems very happy.   Ra. Or Ma.

Thelma, Lisa and I found that we all had this same quilt in various stages of construction–or maybe they started making it together, and I remembered that I had it in the beginning stages of construction.  Yeah, that was it.  And I horned in on their sewing adventure.  They are good friends though, they didn't tell me to butt out.  They even waited for me to get my borders on to do the reveal today.

So, Ta Da, here is the magnificent Toulouse!  This is one heck of a wonderful quilt pattern by Miss Rosie's Quilt Company, and if you don't have it, please rectify that and get it right away.  The contruction was easy, but not brainless.  The instructions were clear and once broken down into specific steps, a breeze to sail through.  A quilt, that when finished, you will be very proud to have made.

Imagine this quilt in some other colorways.  The new blue, yellow and cream group by April Cornell?  Nature's Notebook?  Exquisite.  Any medley by Kansas Troubles?  Wonderful.  And if Rouenneries hasn't been done to death yet, that would be pretty darn yummy too.

So, go check out Stashmaster and Cupcakes n' Daisies and see how Lisa and Thelma did with their versions!  Besides, Thelma is doing a pretty unbelievable give away in honor of her 100th post, which believe me, you want to get in on.

A huge thank you to all of you who exercised your brains yesterday trying to help me figure out an alternate block for my Mocha Trail quilt!  Michelle actually went to the trouble of making a block to test out her math, so I am going to send her my extra Mocha Trails pattern.  Talk about bending over backwards for another quilter…

I plan to experiment with several of your suggestions this weekend, so stay tuned to see how I do!  Have a great weekend Friends!

  1. Looks gorgeous! Nothing like some fellow bloggers to get you motivated to finish. Since I’m one totally using Rouenneries to death I have to agree it would look great 😉

  3. Wow – your crisp red and green make your Toulouse look much more sophisticated, Nicole. My quilt must be the country bumpkin brother!

  5. Oh my gosh! I wish you could have seen my reaction when I saw this post! Wide eyes, jaw open, I slammed my hands on my desk so hard that my coffee cup got some air and shouted, “Wooooaahhhh!!!!” Hahaa! Telling you, “BEAUTIFUL quilt” is an understatement!

  7. Ooooooh, I wish I was in on this quilt. I just love it! But let me tell you, there is NONE of this fabric left on the face of the planet. Trust me, I’ve scoured every single corner, nook and cranny. I’ll have to live viacariously through you three because they’re all gorgeous. Even Lisa’s “Country Bumpkin” cousin. Is that a first cousin? j/k

  15. Nicole,
Your Toulouse quilt turned out wonderful!! You do such a nice job putting your fabrics together for your quilts. What method did you use for your flying geese? Those have always been tricky for me. I remember once reading you had a plastic gadget taped on top of your sewing machine plate and under the needle–can’t remember what it is called. Do you still use that? Your flying geese look great!! Have lots of fun ENJOYING your Toulouse beauty!

  27. I love the Toulouse block and quilt.
I thought I’d send you some math for the Caramel quilt. Strip piecing it, that is.
    For the center 9 patch,
    Strip set 1 is:
cut strips 2″ black WOF, 1.5″ white, 2″ black
Make two sets. Sew B-W-B and cross cut 2″ wide
    Strip set 2 is:
cut strips 2″ white WOF, 1.5″ black, 2″ white
Make one set. Sew W-B-W and cross cut 1.5″ wide
stack them and sew them together 1-2-1 for the center 9 patches.
    Now for the four corners:
    Strip set 3 is:
Cut strips 2″ black WOF, 3″ white
Make two sets. Sew B-W and cross cut 2″
    Strip set 4 is:
Cut strips 2″ white WOF, 1.5″ black, 2″ white
Make one set. Sew W-B-W and cross cut 1.5″
Stack them and sew together 3-4-3 for those corner patches.
(Notice that Strip set 2 is identical to Strip set 4. I just separated it so it is clear what goes into each block.
The 4 plain squares are strips cut 4.5″ white WOF, cross cut 4.5″ to get 4.5″ squares.
Stack the subunits up and chain piece them until its ready to reveal. I didn’t know how many blocks you need, but you can scale it up from knowing how many come from each set as described above.
    Hope that helps!

  31. P.S. Nicole, I thought I had a memory of a post where you mentioned a ruler for flying geese. I browsed this morning and found it. I was wondering, how you liked the ruler you bought from Open Gate Quilts? Do you like it better than the other methods you’ve used to make the flying geese?

  33. Do you ever smell smoke when you’re sewing? ‘Cause I think my feed dogs would be on *fire* if I worked as quickly as you! Toulouse is gorgeous, as is all of your work, and I’m so glad you gave it another chance.

  35. I can hardly stand it…it’s so beautiful. You have the best color sense…I’m just apt to copy what you do and forget trying to put anything together on my own. So so pretty….
