Let’s Go

I had a wonderful few days off visiting my daughter.  Now I am home, and ready to get to sewing!  The holidays are over, my work schedule has lessened, and I am ready to focus on my true passion:  quilting!

005
My friend Thelma and I plan to do a project together.  It is a Bonnie Blue pattern called Belle Meade, and we are both using various French General Fabrics.  My quilt has scraps from Rouenneries, Lumiere de Noel and Rural Jardin.  French General's new collection Petit Ecole just came out recently and I may end up putting in some of that as well.  The colors of all their offerings thus far coordinate beautifully together.

The Belle Meade pattern calls for well over 600 half square triangles for the blocks, and Thelma and I have been working on them for months in preparation for this project.

002
Prior to my visit with Sara, I had about half the paper pieced half square triangles finished.  While I was up in Angels Camp, I got serious.

004
The other half are all stitched, trimmed and have the paper peeled off.  I still need to press, but essentially, I am ready to sew!  On Monday, look for my first finished blocks!

On the drive home from Angels, I stopped at several quilt shops and picked up fabric for my first baby quilt!

007
At this point, since we don't know if Baby Bean is going to be a boy or a girl, I went with green.  This is the lovely Lilly and Will (or Willy and Lil, as I tend to say it) fabric by Anne Sutton.  It comes in several color ways:  pink, blue, and green.  Love love love it.

Have a great weekend Friends, and check back on Monday to see my first Belle Meade blocks!  Let the sewing begin.

  3. How fun to start your first baby quilt! I’m curious to know which HST method you prefer after using the papers on Belle Meade and the Easy Angler on previous quilts.

  7. What method are you using for your HST’s? Saw your reference to paper, are you using thangles? I’m not a fan of HST because I have a difficult time getting them to look nice unless I make them larger and cut down to size…looking for suggestions.

  9. I am impressed! You and Thelma are so wise and so organized to be ahead of the HST game by making them in recent months. Now you can just make the large HSTs and begin putting the quilts together. You don’t have to make the 600+ HSTs now so it’s almost like this quilt will fly together!! Applause!!!
Cheers that you’re incorporating so many fabrics from different fabric lines in this quilt! Your quilt will really be one of a kind in the world and is so satisfying.
Oh! I knew a baby quilt couldn’t be long in the making! Lovely fabrics. How is Sara feeling?
    Hugs!

  11. You can’t go wrong with French General. I am looking forward to Belle Meade. Do you still pinch yourself when you realize you are going to be a grandma? I can’t imagine how ecstatic I would be!

  13. Your Belle Mead is going to be awesome Nicole – perfect fabric choices.
I see you have some of the textured Lily & Will – that will be great in a baby quilt and I never thought of adding it, but will get some to go with mine.

  15. Nicole, I love Anne’s Lily and Will and I think that green was a wonderful choice. I can’t wait to see what pattern you choose. Hope Sara is feeling okay and I glad you had a relaxing visit with her.Hugs…

  17. LOVE the color choices for the baby quilt! Modern, fresh, does not scream “baby” — will be a treasure to the wee one long past his or her wee one stage.
I am addicted to doing HSTs using paper. Perfect ever time, with no chance of wonky bias seams. I just purchased a program that lets you print the paper guides on your home computer/printer in finished size increments of 1/16th of an inch.

  19. Oh, my, that pattern is going to be awesome in French General fabric!!!! Did you get any sun in Angels Camp? I went with friends to Sonora on Tuesday to “see the sun”. Walked around the town in the rain most of the day! LOL!

  21. So ambitious! I’m always in awe of what you’re willing to tackle. Especially since for me the more seams in a block the more likely it is to end up looking like a wavy mess than a neat block. You insipre me to keep trying! Can’t wait to see the pictures. I wayyyyyyy overbought some French General fabrics for another quilt and this might be the ideal way to use the leftovers.

  23. I’m currently making a baby quilt with the blue colorway of Lily & Will – it’s such beautiful fabric. I’d love to get it in all the colorways if I could. Do you have a pattern in mind? I’m sure it will be beautiful! Can’t wait to see the Belle Meade progress!
