Little Village Week Two

This week's blocks in the Little Village Quilt Along were so great! I thoroughly enjoyed making them. Isn't that little checkerboard one cute? I am really having fun making these blocks.  I may have to keep going because I do not think 16 will be enough for me.

You can get the patterns for free for your individual use on Jessica Dayon's website. Jessica is very generously providing the patterns for free, but is asking that folks not distribute them in any way.  Feel free to refer people to her website or Instagram, just don't print out her work and distribute it.

I would like you to take a closer look at two of the blocks because they are so unusual. I do not have names for these block patterns because the designer refers to them as "Block 6" or "Block 7," etc.

You may have to enlarge the photo to see it clearly, but can you tell that the entire middle of the block is one section composed of six triangles and a square? It was stitched diagonally in three segments.  I have never made a star quite like this and think it is pretty unique. The top and bottom star points are made with two flying geese.  When most people make this block, it is composed of a center square in a square unit surrounded by four flying geese and four corner squares.  I actually think the points come out better with this method, which is slightly oversized and trimmed down to size. I thought it was so cool while I was making it.

The construction of this block seemed unusual to me as well. I love the look of the block and do not think I have ever made it before. And look at that light print with the letters of the alphabet! I don't know how long this print has been in my stash, but I am delighted I unearthed it for this project.  I have really shopped at home in 2020, which may be the only plus of this year.

If you are interested in sewing along with this project, here are the details.  Jessica Dayon is the designer. She calls the project The Little Village Quilt Along. On her blog, she publishes four new block patterns each week for a total of 16. She has all the fabric requirements, cutting instructions, and setting information on her website. She is also on Instagram. I have provided links to all her content here on my blog site. For those of you who are new to this, a link is when you click on bolded, underlined text and are then taken to a different website with the referenced content. I have never gotten so many emails asking me how to find the patterns and instructions for a project. You can absolutely get it all, and it is free.  Just click on any of the bold underlined texts here in this post to go to her website.

You can also post photos of your blocks on Instagram at #littlevillagequilt. It is a lot of fun to see the fabric choices and blocks other people have made.
