I decided I needed a walk at lunch one day this past week, and I invite you to come along with me and see what I saw. My family is planning a vacation to Spain at the end of this month, and I figured I had better get my feet in shape for all the walking we will be doing. It is my good fortune to work at a university campus that is as beautiful as the nicest country club. It was another perfect early Spring day, and getting some exercise was just the ticket. Along my stroll, one of the first sights I encountered was this gorgeous magnolia tree, blooming its heart out.
Next, I saw this peaceful courtyard with cleverly trimmed topiaries. I thought it best to venture a bit farther afield, and headed out to the university founder’s family mausoleum. Here is one thing that is weird about me: I love cemeteries. I find them peaceful & reflective, rather than somber or morbid. And a mausoleum…well it doesn’t get much better than that.
Rather grand, don’t you think?
And this is my favorite sight along my noon time walk: The Angel of Grief. I have always had a great deal of affection for this gal. No disrespect intended, but to me, she looks like she has just gotten the news that her credit privileges at Nordstroms have been suspended.

Beautiful campus. I love the angel. Reminds me of my Sunday-morning weigh-ins.

Wow! If I didn’t know better, I’d think those were photos from Europe! I had forgotten you live in the South, as I looked in amazement at those glorious blooms! Everything here in New England is still sleeping. =) They haven’t much choice, as the weather is still rather drab.

Beautiful pictures Nicki. Still planning on building your own pink mausoleum?
Susan C. ~ I laughed out loud at your comment. Ah yes I know the feeling…

You betcha. And it will be pink marble, thank you very much. There will be plenty of room for deserving and compatible relatives….

What a beautiful place to go to work. The university campus where I work is very lovely as well, but I never venture out into the grounds. And we don’t have the spring flowers up here yet – soon though. I just love Magnolia trees. And the Angel of Grief – she just looks heartbroken. I hope her credit is reinstated soon — LOL
