So this is what 200 4 1/2" blocks looks like. It represents a lot of sewing. I wish I could show you the blocks, which are super cute, but I can't. This is a stunt sewing project I am doing for a well known quilt pattern designer, and I am sworn to secrecy until the pattern comes out.
I have been procrastinating working on this, but the deadline approaches, and I must get myself in production mode and show some progress. After finishing the 200 blocks, I rewarded myself by working on Beach Cottage and made a few blocks for that project too over the weekend. Gosh those blues and yellows are so soothing.
I made a few blocks for Beach Cottage, and love the low contrast blendy feel of them.
In other news, my husband and I went to the movies on Saturday to see Alice in Wonderland in 3-D. It is a Tim Burton movie, for Disney. Wow, that movie was really something! I am a huge Johhny Depp fan, and let me just say his performance did not disappoint. It is incredible what can be done these days with computer animation. The 3-D effect was interesting, but it didn't thrill me that much. You can opt to see the movie in a non-3-D mode, which would not detract from the movie at all.
The movie may not sit well with purists, but I thought this version was spectacularly entertaining.
Here is some interesting trivia. Why was the Hatter Mad? Why did he have red hair and weird eyes? Well, in Victorian times, it was common for hat makers to use mercury to treat the felt used in constructing hats. They sometimes fell ill with mercury poisoning, which causes madness, and changes in hair color.
Helena Bonham Carter, who is Tim Burton's domestic partner, was the Red Queen. Her head was two times the size of a normal person thanks to computer graphics. She was totally psycho, and had stolen the throne out from under her sister the White Queen, and started a war in Wonderland.
Anne Hathaway was the White Queen. Isn't she pretty? Pretty wacko too, but in a good way. After all, the queens were sisters (same gene pool) so it is understandable that they shared some weird quirks.
Anyway, the movie is worth seeing for sure. See if you can identify the voices of the actors who are the Caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat!

I think that I’m one of those purists who probably will be more disappointed than pleased, so I’m actually thankful for your review! I’m anxious to see what your stunt gig will produce. Perhaps something for spring market? 🙂

The big question in my mind is, “Where did you get those Rubbermaid Handi-boxes?” Those are awesome! I haven’t seen that size.

We saw Avatar in 3D on Friday, I loved the movie but hubby and I thought the 3D didn’t add anything. Not sure why but I had a wicked headache the next day. It’s good to reward yourself with something different. I can’t wait to see the project finished.

I’m so jealous that you saw Alice before I did. I’m going soon, this week I hope.

Awesome movie! Granddaughter, who’s a movie nut, nailed the cat and caterpillar right away. Yes, it was great escapism and that’s why I go to movies. If I want depressed, I’ll watch the news.

I’m loving that Beach Cottage! Pat yourself on the back for a great start on your super secret project.
My daughter loved Alice but her boyfriend not so much. I can’t pass up any Johnny Depp film, hopefully we’ll see it this weekend.

I feel your pain…almost. I am putting together over 168 flying geese…maybe more by the time they go on my quilt. I love teaching what little I know about piecing…check out http://www.lambscrib.blogspot.com
I like taking pictures of what I do…I adore Johhny Depp and I don’t care if the movie is good or bad…I just want to see him! Love your Beach Cottage!
