I loved this week's block "Summer Breeze" by Joanna Figueroa.  Actually I have been looking for a pattern for this block for months.  Lynne Hagemeier from Kansas Troubles Quilts used this block in a project and I absolutely loved it.  I was not taking part in her sew along, so alas, I couldn't get the block instructions.

KT block

This is Lynne's block. I love the contrast of the half square triangles with the smaller triangle.  I'd love an entire quilt made with this block.  I am not sure what it is really called (definitely not "Summer Breeze).  Do any of you know it's proper name?

I made the 8 inch size this week.  Here it is with the other 8 inch blocks I've made so far.

And here are my 12 inch and 6 inch blocks.  There will be four 12" blocks in the center, surrounded by 6" blocks on point.  The 8" blocks will form a frame around the outer body of the quilt.  Obviously I have more than 14 blocks so far.  Every time I see a block elsewhere that I really like, I make one and add it into the mix for BlockHeads 3.

My husband and I are trying to entertain ourselves in the evening, and have been taking turns picking out a movie to watch.  The other night he chose the movie The Rainmaker, which was made from one of John Grisham's books.  My husband does love himself a courtroom drama.  Last night I chose The Remains of the Day, a wonderful movie (and book) with Emma Thompson and Anthony Hopkins.  The movie asks the question, "What would you be willing to give up for a career?"  It is so thought-provoking.  At what point does doing our job well and being loyal to our employer take precedence over following our own conscience and living a rewarding life of our own?

How about you?  Have you viewed anything worthwhile on the telly recently?  Do share!

  1. I am fortunate that I have worked as a Primary Health Nurse along side my GP husband for 30 plus years. I find it rewarding and love what I do. I am also able to give back now my kids are older mentor other nurses, on a board and an advisory group as well as my quilting and looking after my granddaughter when we are not in isolation. The odd trip to other parts of the world., books to read and good health. Life is good.

  4. It is a version of Kansas Troubles. Not Lynn’s store – that’s the name of the block.

  7. A couple years back, our lives became so hectic and complicated that our DVR became packed and almost full. With Covid-19, we’ve been able to catch up on a few shows, This Old House, Forged in Fire, 3 years backlog of Hawaii Five-O and I finally finished Grantchester and Poldark.

  10. I think this block pattern is Kansas Trouble and I’ve also seen it called Indian Trail.
My husband and I have also been watching some TV after dinner but we seem to be running out of ideas for what to watch next. When I exercise I’ve been re-watching the series “St. Elsewhere”.

  13. There is a reason Lynne uses that block as her logo… it’s the traditional “Kansas Troubles” quilt block her company is named after. The tidying and turning of the jagged pinwheels represents the tornadoes that caused so many problems for early settlers.

  16. Your blocks are looking good!
We also watch a movie every evening but trying to find a movie that we both want to watch can take time. I like your idea of alternating the choice! We did see a movie last night that we both found to be really good – Just Mercy. It’s a legal drama and based on a true story – something we both enjoy watching.
    Stay safe.

  19. Just finished the 15th and final season of “Criminal Minds.” I’m going to miss it. Now I’m working on Season 3 of “Ozark.,” which has become pretty wild.
You’re getting a lot of work done. And it’s gorgeous. I especially love the blue-and-white Summer Breeze block.

  22. My husband & I mostly stick to Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, American Pickers, Big Bang Theory re-runs, etc. in the evening. Last week we made masks for our small local airport’s staff & others together for a couple of days. One day we ‘binged’ on Grumpy Old Men & Grumpier Old Men in the background while my husband pressed ties & I sewed pleats. Old movies are comforting & reassuring in a way, don’t you think? Stay well!
