I think it is time for a Moda Blockheads 5 catch-up. For the setting I am going to do, I need 5 twelve-inch blocks, 16 six-inch blocks, and 8 six-inch blocks with a darker outside edge.
Right now, I have 4 twelve-inch blocks, 14 six-inch blocks, and 6 six-inch blocks with a darker outside edge, Not too many more to go,
And, you know what? I am pretty much done with this project. Of all the Moda Blockheads sew-alongs, I think this one has been my least favorite for two reasons. One, I did not care for how the sew-along started, with us making a dozen blocks and "you can keep them in your project or use them for something else", and then the sew-along seemingly started over. Two, I found a number of the block offerings to be incompatible with the blocks made thus far. They were either too simple or diverged greatly in style from the others we had made. So, I will pick the best of the lot (to my taste) and make it work. The jury is out as to whether or not I will participate in another Moda Blockheads sew-along.
Here is a close-up of my darker-edged blocks:
I just need to come up with two more of these.
Have you been doing this sew-along? What are your thoughts?

A friend just loves the Blockheads series, and I recently became interested in participating. I agree with you about how Moda started this project. It’s an unnecessary use of materials and time.
Your blocks are beautiful.

Sew-a-longs always sound so fun but then I wake up in the reality of my life, with little time to complete projects I have in progress, and give them a pass. Some of the Blockhead blocks are fabulous and others ho-hum. Love your choices but I see what you mean about compatibility as I look at your wall. Maybe some day I will have time to schedule a sew-a-long or maybe I am dreaming š

Iām usually just barely keeping up with what I have, and having a hard time finding time to sew. Mostly I do block of the month type sew alongs if I do any.
Your blocks look great. I like the fabric line.

I did the Moda blockheads once or twice but found it just dragged along and I was anxious to finish. I do not care for āpictureā blocks when they are offered (a butterfly, a bird). I prefer for the blocks to all be different sampler blocks.

I think it may be an age thing with me. For the past 10 years I have done
Mostly sampler, block of the month, and sew alongs. Mostly I have enjoyed them but they are more time consuming. My last disappointment was a quilt that was beautiful in the picture online but when I received the first kit I realized I was in trouble. I donāt like working with 1/8 measurements, some pieces were 1 inch finished, and there was a set in seam seam when joining the blocks. I did finish it
But find myself drawn to easier patterns now where you can cut
Four layers at a timeš

The lower right corner block is one I don’t think I’ve ever seen. I really like it! I’ve done a couple of monthly sew-alongs with our local guild but found myself losing interest–squirrel!–so I stick to doing projects on my own.

I did two sew alongs. One was Riley Blake and last years Moda Blockheads. I donāt like the pressure to keep up, the vague ideas of what the final layout will be, and the fact that my printer died. I decided to make patterns that truely appeal to me and go at my own pace. I prefer to quilt in the winter when the weather dictates at home time.

I applaud you for finishing quiltalongs even in your own time.
A number of years ago I did one that was a block a day. I did finish it completely. Now if I do a quilt along, I prefer same block not many different (Gudrun Erla.) Moda’s are complex and long sewalongs. BlockheadsāI am only a voyeur not a participant.

I really love those darker edged blocks…really grounds it and makes the block design stand out.
