ModaBlockheads #9

I made this week's MBH block #9, and am feeling just so so about it.  I need to tighten up some of the seams so things line up a bit better.  I am also thinking of doing an 8 inch size and have the center section have a scrappy mixture of sixteen little squares instead of a line up of same color squares as the one above has.

I've been busy cooking and reading and generally not doing much.  My husband and I did go to our local grocery store and stocked up on pantry items and meat for the freezer so we don't have to keep running to the store every day, which is what we typically do.  We are trying not to leave home any more than we have to with the Coronavirus hysteria that is going on.  The elementary school in the next town over is shut down for two weeks because one of the students tested positive for it.  Every day brings more news of things being canceled or shut down.  Is the virus affecting your life at this point?

My son in Ireland tells me the Dublin St. Patrick's Day parade has been canceled.  That is a first, for sure.  Lots of money going to be lost due to that.  Our local Irish Day has been canceled as well, which will be a huge loss for local businesses.  What a shame.

So far, we aren't hoarding toilet paper or anything, but are trying to be vigilant about handwashing and not going out into public places so much.  So I made a fabulous pound cake today and have nothing better to do than stay home and eat it.  This crisis could be a disaster for my waistline.

  1. It’s funny, I opened your post and thought, “That’s the prettiest one I’ve seen yet, even from the designers!” I love your block!
Stay safe with the coronavirus. We’re leaving tonight for Disney World for a week, so we’ll be watching the news and washing our hands…a lot!

  4. The cake looks delicious. Your block is really pretty. It sounds like we are going to have a lot of sewing time for a while as home seems to be the safest place to be. Take care!

  7. Stay home and let them eat cake. Sounds like a plan to me. But, then you can stitch and read as well, so not too constricting. When in CA, I worked at the nearby UC campus, and participated in the mass innoculations for the Swine flu. Wish we had a vaccine for this bug. Much prefer a scenario where the public doesn’t seem so vulnerable. Stay safe.

  10. lol @ crisis = wonderful things to eat!
on a serious note, it is good that you are both staying home as much as possible. we are in the demographic group that can die from covid-19.
we are still doing our usual routine but we are really vigilante about washing our hands as soon as we get home.
our gym is taking this really seriously. every hour an employee is out there cleaning the machines. that is a good thing. ;p

  13. I’m visiting my sister until Monday, then 3 flights to get home. Right now we’re going to restaurants & stores without being overly concerned. But we’re constantly washing our hands or using hand sanitizer. Looking ahead, I’m wondering if our local quilt shop will cancel the retreat scheduled at the end of next week. As with everything nowadays, I guess time will tell.

  16. Our kids here start March break for a week and then they are closing all the publicly funded schools in Ontario for two weeks. Everything almost feels surreal. One can only hope that people keep their common sense in the forefront and act accordingly.Everyone keep safe.
