More Rain, More Sewing

Give me a day off, in particular a rainy day off, and if I have my way, I will spend it sewing.  That is just what I did yesterday and was wildly productive.   I finished a dozen more Penny Pincher blocks.  I have no room on my design wall at the moment, so I just spread them out on the cutting mat to take a photo.

Next up were two more blocks in Lisa Bongean's 2017 Triangle Challenge.  I was going to make this quilt totally scrappy, but after some thought, have decided to us the Primitive Snowman Gatherings  collection by Primitive Gatherings.  I don't usually do blue and white quilts, but have made up my mind to toss that practice out the window.   It is great fun to make a wintery/January quilt in blues and whites.  I think I get so much pleasure using fabrics that are "in season".  No reason to deny myself, right?  I will redecorate the guest room in blue and white, that is what I shall do.

Speaking of blue and white quilts, I have had two requests for blue and white table toppers from different loved ones, and got cracking on that task.

This was a fun project.  I used the Reveille Scnibbles pattern by Miss Rosie and modified it to the size I wanted.  I used just the blues from a fat eighth bundle called Figures by Zen Chic, plus some white fabric for the nine patches.  I easily got these two toppers out of those ten or eleven fat 8ths, and could probably have squeezed out a third if I had planned a bit better.  I have the border fabric on order, and when I get the borders on and the tops machine quilted I will show you the finished toppers.  The blocks finished at 6 3/4" and the size of the tops without the borders is around 21 1/2".  The will be around 25 inches square with the borders I plan to add on.

With luck I can squeeze in some more sewing this long weekend!  Hope you all have a good one.

  1. I just love seeing all that you accomplish! I am far too easily distracted, so when I get a good day like you’ve had lately, I often fritter it away and have nothing to show for myself. I am most productive when I go to some place to sew or when a friend comes here to sew with me. At home on my own, I need to put a movie on Netflix or listen to a book on tape – that will often keep me on task! Your stuff is gorgeous!!

  10. ‘Wildly productive’ is an understatement! The blue & white table toppers are very pretty. When I have multiples to make I try to sew them production line style. Speaking of sewing several at once, have you seen Snap Happy bags by Stitchin’ Sisters? They’re quick, easy & as addictive as the Zippy Strippy bags!!
