My Life Is A Long Weekend

Hope all of you are enjoying the long weekend.  How I used to look forward to a three day weekend!  And envy the Europeans for their monthly "bank holidays".  Now that I am not working, it seems that one day flows into the next, making my life one long weekend.  Whatever you are doing, I hope you are happy and healthy and with your loved ones.

Elizabeth is nearly finished.  I could stop now, but want to add a dark pink containment border and a final border of the lightest large floral print.  If my husband and I stay home today (instead of going wine tasting), I will get those borders on.  I love the lighter palette of this quilt top.  It will coordinate beautifully with the other quilt I finished recently from the same fabric collection (Rouenneries by French General for Moda).

If you have not visited Thelma's blog Cupcakes 'n' Daisies in a while, you need to go over and say hello.  She just finished a version of Madeline that will knock your socks off!  Thelma is a gal who takes things one step further than anyone else.

  7. Elizabeth is worthy of her royal appelation. She and Rouenneries make quite a stunning couple. Very very nice work!

  15. Really beautiful quilts.
I know what you mean about being retired and long weekends. All my hard working kids are off on vacations but the long weekend is just like any other for me.

  17. I thought Madeline was simply beautiful. Now Elizabeth takes my breath away! It feels so light and airy. The two together will coordinate beautifully.

  19. Both fantastic quilts but I adore Elizabeth. I am on all long weekends too now until August when I am back to the grind. I think I have a few more years in me for work but then I turn 60 and I think I’ll be ready to stop then. Plus Freshmen college students are getting really annoying these days.

  23. I take back what I said in a previous post about the zig zag being the most beautiful rounneries quilt I had seen. Now you and Thelma get to top the list. I suppose one could do the same type of thing with rural jardin and the blues. The patterns are of course beautiful too.

  25. Nicole, they are both exquisite, as is Thelma’s!!! You must be so, so pleased with your effort!
My ‘Spice of Life Quilts’ arrived today. Carrie has excelled again. I will stay with the blues as I picked up two pillow panels about 6-7 years ago for this son and the colours will tie in. The panels are of your “cowboy” droving cattle in blue, beige, and chestnut. Martin is 19 going on 20 now but he would still like them made up, bless him, I guess it is nearly time but might wait just a bit longer incase you decide to make it as your next quilt. You are so inspiring, thank you!
    Best wishes.

  27. These two quilts are “over the top” in my eyes, absolutely love them! Hope your husband gets better soon and your house sells. We are going to be going through that house “stuff” in the next year too. Nancy in WI

  29. Nicole, Both of the quilts are exquisite, I have a hard time choosing a favourite. Your productivity amazes me. I feel as though I am the most unproductive quilter around – I’m stuck on a table runner I started months ago – just can’t decide on what type of quilting to do – so far I’ve tried three techniques and don’t like any of them – well back to the drawing board.

  33. Hi Nicole!
Just caught up on your blog due a broken computer. Love the quilts you finished.
As for reading materials, I love historical fiction too. Here are my recommendations:
Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay (about the French round-up of the Jews during Nazi Occupied France in 1942) Present day story mixed with the past connecting present lives to the events in 1942. While not a mystery I was kept in suspense. May need tissues.
Now and Then by Jacqueline Sheehan
I was drawn to this book initially because of the Irish Wolfhound on the cover. Present day story again mixed with the past in England/Ireland.
Lost and Found by Jacqueline Sheehan
Woman’s husband dies. Story is about how she finds herself. Also animals are pivotal in this one. Loved it.
Hope the job hunt works out!
    Pat
