Do you all have a special box to hold all your hand sewing notions? What you see in the photo above is my binding box. I have my binding clips (how did we ever live without them?), small scissors, my thimble, and needle threader. I would be lost without my needle threader for sure. I have had that metal thimble for years and years. It fits my finger most of the time, unless I am cold, then it tends to go flying off across the room.
This messy box holds everything else. Needles, more scissors, more needles, pins, and lots of thread. I tend to pull a spool to match whatever binding I am sewing on and typically don't get around to returning it to its proper home in my sewing room. When I can't get the lid on the box anymore, I clean it out and put all the thread away. The box is actually an ancient Tupperware container that is divided. I remember years ago when I got it they were promoting it as a fishing tackle box or a craft supplies box. It has served me well for decades.
I am always curious to hear how others organize their sewing supplies. Please share how you keep your hand sewing materials in the comments!
We went to Eva's school Open House Wednesday night. She was so proud to show us her classrooms and her work. I'll share more about that in my next post. She has had an unusual couple of years in that school.

My mother used the same Tupperware container for her sewing supplies! Timeless.

I have a hard shell glass case that holds just enough for a current project. Unless I am using a big cone thread because of color match.

I don’t have any for normal sewing but I do have a box for crochet hooks, for hand sewing, for purse patterns and another for clothes patterns. If I am going to bind, I just go to the thread drawer, the needles and thimbles are together. I like items together now, used to have them all over the place.

I smiled when I saw your binding clip picture. How DID we manage without those little gems?? I keep mine in a plastic storage box from Walmart along with needles, thimbles (I use the little Thimble-It pads),a ripper & the thread I’m using for a binding. It’s quick to grab the next thread color & take to another room or to sewing group because I know everything I need for binding is inside.

I have a rectangular tin box next to my sewing machine and in it are a pin cushion, seam ripper, a seam fixr, and my extra 1/4″ presser foot. My quilt clips are in a round plastic container, and all my hand sewing supplies are in another tin box I carry to the place i intend to sit while hand sewing usually my Grandma’s swan neck rocking chair that fits me perfectly.
Isn’t it a delight so see the pride in which Kids see their work?
Hugs!

I have a hand-sewing box too, one that is very special to me. And your post has given me to the idea for today’s blog post at Blackberry Creek. Hope you don’t mind.

I have a little square basket that I use with my current hand sewing “project”. It works for me. I always sit in the same place in the family room so it is in the same place most all of the time. Works

I have a small, oval tin with a Mary Englebreit design that I keep my basics in: scissors, thimble, silk pins, needles, some basic neutral thread, needles, a pair of tweezers, a marker, and a glue stick. It’s so easy to carry it to where I may want to do hand work. Interesting question!

I keep the basic hand stitching things in a zip bag next to my chair in the living room. When going to a retreat or sewing class I use a bigger zip bag. I have made the bags so when not in use they kind of match my decor.

I keep my binding clips in a Vera bag and good friend gave me a dividend sewing pouch just the right size for everything else. I’ve gotten carried away with clips 😂😂

I have a double-decker tin with lid (sold in Chinese stores for food storage and school lunches) that holds my hand sewing items. By Annie has a pattern for a hold-all thing that I’d like to make to hold my EPP supplies and current project.

I have a sewing box I bought for myself when I was 19 years old. It opens like a picnic basket and has a removable tray on top with storage underneath. I keep all my sewing machine accessories in it along with various notions like pins, needles, and hook and eye closures from a project I did 40 years ago. I keep my thread in a separate Sterlite shoebox along with my bobbins which are in a vintage lucite bobbin holder (love that thing). I also have a Kate Spade makeup bag (maybe for brushes?) that you gave me that I keep my rotary cutters and extra blades in. It has been fun reading all the comments on this post. 🙂

I love my little hand sewing supply boxes. Since I do a lot of hand piecing, mine is tailored to suite that work. I use a green Tupperware plastic sandwich box. It holds my pieces for hand quilted blocks, scissors, thread, several threaders, and a pincushion with a few pins in it. That’s pretty much it and it’s always ready for a cozy stitching session.

I have a small zippered cosmetic-type bag that I keep my binding materials in to include my binding clips, needles, a small pair of scissors, and spools of my basic binding colors (Black, white, natural, grey). It certainly is not fancy but easy to carry when I am going to sew binding in the evening in front of the television.
For my rotary cutters, frixion pens and other markers, small rulers (6 inch or less), scissors, awl, seam ripper, I use a rectangular desk caddy that I purchased from Pottery Barn. It sits right next to my sewing machine.
