my sewing room

If you are lucky enough to have a quilting studio all your own, then you are truly blessed. I am enjoying having a space all my own to create and dream. Technically, I haven't actually used my finished room yet…because I forgot to buy a chair! Ikea is no where near by, so I'm hunting down consignment stores for something to match the room. I found that delicate little antique table on craigslist and begged my aunt Andrea to go pick it up for me. It was a steal for $20! The only trouble was, it was missing the drawers and had been painted Pepto Bismal pink. Nothing a coat of white paint couldn't fix! My cutting table is in the shot below. (don't i so totally need a white Singer now??)

Now that I've taken a lesser paying job, and am trying to remodel a new house at the same time, my buying sprees have seriously come to a halt. I take a lot more time to research my purchases and mentally design a rooms interior before I commit to anything. Is there a term for window shopping when you do it on-line? I wanted to share a few links with you that have really inspired me lately:

Marichelle over at LIFEFLUX shot photos of a friends baby shower a few weeks ago. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the onesies that her friends designed, what a great party activity and gift for the new mom!

Tha Satorialist is a street fashion photography blog written by Scott Schuman. Scott recently had a contest asking for submissions of photos of people's grandparents looking particularly stylish. gah!! This picture is so awesome. I want to blow it up and frame it in my guest bedroom- which has a 1940's vibe.

If you don't add EpiCute to your blog roll or Google Reader then you're just not living.

Momma got me this for my birthday, as I am a Kate Spade devotee, and it's perfect for keeping my cosmetics in order when I'm on the go.

  1. It is important to have a space to create that is always at the ready, I think! But you do need a chair and better lighting. In fact, I need a better chair and better lighting 🙂
Not sure what window shopping online is called other than store surfing, but it is fun. It’s mostly inexpensive but then there’s the “have to have it”-gene input that’s hard to ignore, isn’t it?

  5. Since the drawer is missing, are you going to have the desk altered to fit your machine down in it? Flush with the desktop?
It is a very cute, feminine little desk!
My sewing table/work area is a big OLD drafting table with steel drawers and legs, and a removable butcher block top on one side, where the sewing machine sits. Not feminine, but very user-friendly. Most of the top elevates, so I can cut fabrics without killing by neck or fighting light reflections.

  9. It’s wonderful you have a sewing room of your own! Enjoy this spot for delightful creativity.
I hear you on budget. My cutting table was a workroom table from a store that went out of business and it’s just right for my height. Fabric is on two wonderful old bookcases and inside two wonderful old chests of drawers. Try thrift shops, Goodwill, and yard sales for these.
The idea of putting the bed of your sewing machine flush with the table top is excellent. I hope you have more lighting, too.
Nice birthday gift and enjoyable links.
    Have fun!
