My student is on Spring Break this week, and has been getting in as much sewing time as she can. She has now finished her third and final charity quilt top for her senior project. I am just so proud of her. These fabrics were donated to us, and I am happy to say we made good use of them. I have been quilting the tops for her, so I need to get busy and do my part so the quilt will be ready for her end of April class presentation.
Since she has finished the work on the projects, she was keen to start a new project of a more personal nature. Her mom's birthday is coming up and she wants to make her a pretty table runner for the dining room table.
I rummaged around in the stash bins a bit, and found these gorgeous French General remnants. She has finished the main blocks and you can get the idea of where she is going with this. Aren't those blues and pinks glorious together? She had such fun fussy cutting the bird prints to get the block centers just the way she wanted them. So far, she is pleased, and knows her mom will be over the moon.

What a talented young lady! She has been doing some beautiful work. The table runner will be a lovely gift, but being made by your own daughter makes it extra special.

Cheers for your student’s accomplishments under your able tutelage! Her baby quilts have had such cute, individual looks as her abilities with piecing different blocks have expanded and this charming table runner will be the icing on the cake! Her mom will, indeed, be over the moon with this wonderful birthday gift.
Applause, applause!
Just last night I had an idea for making 3 table runners out of one I started. I am unhappy with the block size with the three stars sewn together, so will separate them and add different borders. Oh, the possibilities!
Hugs!

Your student is doing so well! I am going to have a student, too! My 25 year old granddaughter asked me last night if I would help her with a quilt. Of course I agreed to do so! I’m thinking Camille’s A Piece of Cake would be a good first quilt. No bias edges, only nice big pieces and straight lines. And she wants to use lots of colorful fabrics, so a quilt make with layer cakes is perfect, don’t you think?

Your student is doing a fantastic job! The baby quilt with pinks, springy green and lavender is really pretty. And the beginnings of the table runner for her mother is simply beautiful.

What a great student! I’m sure her recipients will be so happy with the quilts as will her mom! That blue is one of my favorite French General prints 🙂

That is so fun Nicole! I had a student to teach quilting to as her senior project once upon a time. She became my daughter in law 10 years later.

What a wonderful beginning to your student’s quilting journey! She’ll never forget you! I’m certain you have given her skills she would otherwise never have gained. Applause, applause for both of you!!

Your student is doing beautiful work! And she seems to have been bitten by the quilting bug. That’s wonderful. You’ve given her a priceless gift that will last her a lifetime!!

Your student must feel really proud of herself after completing several tops for her charity & as she is about to reach her goal. While all of her quilts are very nice, I can see the confidence growing and practice skills improving from the 1st top through the 3rd. Can’t wait to see her reaction when she see them quilted. You are a great mentor, not because the tops turned out well, but because you have encouraged her & gave her the confidence to want to continue quilting even though her school project is nearly done. You have infected someone with the quilting bug – hopefully for a lifetime.
I just saw your Long Road Home top completed and it is wonderful. I have noticed how your quilting skills have grown expotentially the past couple of years. Your careful color selection & block placement has added a new level of complexity & richness to your quilts. It inspires me to hope that can improve my skills if I push myself to be challened like you do.
Ava is the cutest little girl. She has a great enthusiasm for life & finds joy in the simpliest things. I hope she continues to have those traits all her life. She sure seemed to love the Easter activities this year. So much fun when they get old enough to participate in the Holidays.

I love her enthusiasm and great idea for her Senior project. The table runner is going to be gorgeous. She has great taste in fabric!

You are so special to teach this young girl! I wish I had a “Nicole” when I was young and wanted so badly to sew. My Dad bought me a sewing machine at Montgomery Ward and I struggled for years. My mother, being a nightclub singer, didn’t have any idea how to help me 🙂 Years later my friend Lizzie encouraged me and yes, that was only 10 years ago. What a head start your little gal has!
