Nantucket Stars

001

I did complete my nine center Nantucket stars on Tuesday.  I need to sew them together, but haven't decided on which one should be in the center.  Sometimes I think I think too much about things, and should just be more random.  It actually looks pretty good as is in the photo!  Sometimes I make things too hard for myself.

Allowing for a major diversion, which was making a Thanksgiving table runner (Clover, see yesterday's post), I am now going to focus my attention and energy on finishing up this sew along.  I should have lots of time to sew on Thursday and Friday of this week, due to my little grand daughter being with her other grandma,  "Mimi".   Those nine patches better get ready, 'cause I am rarin' to go.

Are you ready for Thanksgiving?  Do you have a big crowd to your house?  Or do you just have to make the green bean casserole and show up somewhere?  I need to sit down and make a list of what I need to make this year.  Everyone has their favorite dishes–that sweet potato thing, a very particular dressing, yeast rolls–you know how it goes.  I think my favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner is 1) the mashed potatoes and gravy and 2) the dressing.  The turkey kind of does itself, and the other side dishes-sweet potato casserole, green bean (or other veg) casserole, cranberry relish, pies all can be delegated.  All in all, it is a pretty simple dinner, even if there are a lot of dishes.

If you  are hosting the feast, just remember this word: delegate.

  1. We have our Thanksgiving planned. Our daughter will be making her first trip home from college. She doesn’t like turkey so we’re having roast beef. The Mister does most of the cooking. I like turkey, especially leftovers, so may need to do that in early Dec.

  3. What I need for thanksgiving dinner is a little bit of turkey and cranberry sauce, lots of dressing and gravy and delicious rolls. Everything else is for everyone else!
Say, I have a question about your sewing table. When you need a break from sewing will you send me an email? (Just reply to this). No rush.

  5. We host a group of family & friends who have the ‘drill’ down pat…setting the dining time is the biggest question! Otherwise, everyone has a dish they make because it’s ‘a favorite!’ Lots of laughter & fun but do.not.devitate.from.the.menu or there will be a revolt!!! One of the younger ones changed the salad last year & you can bet THAT mistake won’t be made again!!!
Have another productive day sewing Nantucket!!

  7. Congrats on finishing your center stars ! I haven’t even been able to start sewing mine yet. The kit I ordered was short one background fabric so I am still waiting. So sorry I bought this kit . We drive down to the bay area for Thanksgiving and Christmas now that we live in the foothills. The only thing the family wants me to bring is 2 banana cream pies but I think I am also going to make a pumpkin pecan pie to bring too.

  11. Not at all ready for Thanksgiving, but I’m celebrating just with my brother this year (too far to travel when we’re traveling a few weeks later for Christmas), so I think we’ll be fine. My biggest problem is that I should have known better than to joke that we should have a turducken to a 25 year old boy, as now he insists that is the perfect meal! Sigh.

  13. I don’t have family in the area so I go to the racetrack with friends on Thanksgiving. They have a great buffet and we get a fun afternoon of horse racing. With luck, I’ll cash in a few betting tickets. And, we get a pie to take home!

  15. I alternate years cooking with my mother in law, so this year I’m traveling and bringing something to her house. I just need stuffing to be happy. I love it so much.

  17. Pretty stars! Hubby and I have been hosting Thanksgiving at our house for the past 10 years or so. Before that my folks did both holidays but when they had the audacity to leave the state one November we took it over, realizing how much work they were doing with Thanksgiving and Christmas both! We have a big family with some members of course being with another side of their family, so some years it is less than 10 of us, but more likely at least 15. The most we ever fed was 28! I like stuffing and dark turkey meat 🙂

  19. We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in Australia. Do you have big family gatherings at Christmas with a big meal too? Australians tend to do this at Christmas. I’ve hosted Christmas a couple of times. My husband and I took care of the main dish and asked the visitors to bring side dishes.
