Yea! You will all be relieved that this is not a post about batiks.
I mentioned yesterday that Pat Sloan is hosting a virtual quilting retreat this weekend. I would put the link to her OP Sew Along on my side bar, but I can't remember how to do it.) If any of you Typepad geniuses know how, let me know).
OP stands for Orange Pile, which every one has, and the goal is to reduce ours by making a quilt along with her. Check out her site for the rules. At first I thought, "Oh that sounds really fun, but I don't have any oranges. Too bad". But then I started to think, which hurt my brain only a little. I did manage to pull together some oranges yesterday, which I posted about. Enough to join in the project! Yea again.
So this morning, I am backing out of the garage, passing my grocery store metal shelving unit full of tubs of stash fabric, when I noticed this:
Gasp. Screeeech went the brakes and out of the car I scrambled, luckily remembering to turn off the ignition. There was an entire Rubbermaid tub full of orangey rust fabrics. Rust is orange, right? I pulled the tub down, right out there in the driveway and this is what met my eyes:
Jackpot! It was all I could do to get back in the car and drive to work. When I got home this afternoon though, I went through all the fabrics and set aside the ones that were too red or too gold or too Halloweeny. These are the ones I liked best.
Aren't those simply lovely sitting there all together? This must be what winning the lottery feels like.
Now, part of the rules is to pick a buddy color to work with the oranges. Some people are choosing pink, some teal, some green etc. How about this combo of orange and tan?
Oh my gosh, maybe this combo of rust, navy, and tan is a winner? I do like that.
After picking a buddy color, you have to pick one more color to be an accent. I was thinking green, what do you think? Or I could use brown or green as the buddy fabric and pick creamy tan for the accent. What to do, what to do? I think I must wait until Friday to see the block pattern! This is going to be such fun! Susan at Blackberry Creek is going to play along too. We will post our progress all weekend.

for instructions on how to add a photo link. I can never remember how to do it, but now that I’ve found this it’s a lot easier.

That tub of oranges has some really beautiful fabrics in it. The tied bundle looks particularly interesting and your selection of fabrics looks GREAT. I am so excited to see the finished project. It sounds like it is going to be so much fun and I’m really hoping to be a participant in the next one.

Oh my! What a wonderful stash of oranges you have. You are definitely all set. I did end up finding some…very few…but some. I will have to go back and check the instructions to see how much is enough.

I could hear those tires screeching from here :o) Pays to be organized! Love the blue and tan combo with the orange with the green accent. I would have never thought to put those colours together…but then you have wonderful colour sense.
