I am just a nine patch fool. I have about a hundred of these little guys all done, and think I need to stop now. It is amazing how meditative stitching away on these simple little blocks is. Huge blocks of time have elapsed before I even realize it.
Of course. listening to an awesome audio book helps the time fly. Right now I have The Art of Racing in the Rain on my iPod. You should check it out, I bet you would love this story. It is from a dog's point of view. That's all I'm sayin'.
These nine patch units are for The Long Road Home quilt, which I started the other day. I am definitely changing the name of this quilt to Nine Patch Nirvana. Better than drugs, I tell you.

I too find sewing nine patches soothing. A simple block that can be used in so many ways in creating a quilt. I like your name change for the pattern.

I love all your nine patches Nicole. They are the kind of sewing I like to do when I need a break from working on a quilt that requires intense concentration. Perfect to relax and de-stress with. Can’t wait to see what you make with them. Also I have read “The Art of Racing the Rain”…what a beautiful story. Hugs…

What wonderful, colorful 9 patches you’ve made as you enjoyed zen bliss and I love your quilt’s new name! Applause, applause!
I need to get my medical office out of my little sewing room now that FIL is gone. This small room is too clogged up for my own good.
Hugs!

I too love making nine patch blocks. I call it ‘no mind’ sewing. When you don’t have to think too much and just pedal to the metal!

Do you prepare your nine patches in strip sets first and then cut them into segments, or are you connecting individual squares? I always wondered how random it can look when a quilter does long strip sets… How hard is it to keep them mixed up well?

Yes, nine patch blocks are mindless, and soooo satisfying. I read The Art of Racing in the Rain and really enjoyed it. Interesting and amazing what goes on in dogs’ minds (and people’s lives). Well, actually I should clarify that — what goes on in some dogs’ minds. Our dog, a golden retriever, is a dog of big heart and very little brain, and thinks only about food, I’m sure.
