Lots going on today, but no sewing. My food basket issue was resolved and I have loads of yummy fresh produce to try–fingerling potatoes, sorrel, broccolini, fresh artichokes, huge strawberries, and the most gorgeous red leaf lettuce you ever saw. And yes, some pea shoots too! Not sure how we will handle those. It is recommended that we make them into a salad with strawberries and poppy seed dressing.
Ozzie had a big boy haircut today, and you can see by his expression that he is still pouting a bit. They gave him a little red white and blue boutonniere and brushed his teeth. They also said they had to put a muzzle on him to get the grooming accomplished, but he can come back. The word "vicious" was actually used to describe him. That seems a gross exaggeration, but I guess he didn't exactly behave. Oh brother.
So, I have been looking at my old issues of Better Homes and Gardens American Patchwork magazine. I have found several patterns that I HAVE to do. I may not survive the summer with just finishing up UFOs. The urge to create something new is coursing strongly through my blood today. Here are some of the ideas I came up with.
This is called Homestead Heritage, and you can actually buy it *as a kit* from Homestead Hearth! I do not need any kits (since the stash closet is bursting with bundles), but thought it would look amazing done in Allspice Tapestry, leaving out the pink, and just using the blue, brown, tan, cream and red. Pretty neat, doncha think? I've been saving that bundle for something special and I think this is it.
Or how about this, done in Wildrose by Moda? The pattern "Two Block Trick" is in the Spring 2008 issue of Quilts and More magazine, still available on the newstands. And would you believe this pattern was also created by the designers at Homestead Hearth and is ALSO available as a kit using Wildrose fabric!!!???? I am consistent in my tastes, if nothing else!
So those of you who have tastes similar to mine (I'm talkin' to you, Karen Dianne) should hop on over to their website and see the cool stuff they have available.
I found this ancient issue of BHG AP&Q and look at this great two color quilt!! I could do that with my left over ten million red and white half square triangles!
As my friend Lisa often sighs "So many quilts, so little time"……

Gosh all those projects look amazing, don’t they! Glad you got your veggie box! What a funny idea, putting a boutonniere on Ozzieman… But he looks great!

Look how cute that boy is. Vicious? Truly? There must be some mistake! I understand the lure of a new project. Looks like you have some great choices available to you without having to buy a thing! Have fun deciding.

I so enjoy coming here to see what Ozzie is up to every day! That dog cracks me up! I love all of the quilt ideas – I think you should start all 3 of them.

I am using the Homestead Heritage pattern as my Two-Color quilt challenge. I love it! I really like the Two Block Trick too. I might have to find that magazine.

Look at that very grown up Ozzie…vicious…I don’t think so. One time I had to pay a groomer $10 extra because she said Howie was “naughty for nails”…OMG…Howie is the most laid back dog in the world.
I think Allspice will be perfect for that quilt…a gal at the retreat I went to in Feb. was working on that one. She had gotten the kit…it went really fast. I have Two Block Trick all set aside to do with the bundle. I love that one…and the 2 color one is wonderful too. We don’t need extra hours in the day…we need extra days in the week.

I absolutley love your idea to do the 1st quilt in Allspice Tapestry (one of my FAVE lines!) the pattern is wonderful and I too have had my eye on it in my issues!

I actually live only about hour and a half away from the shop. It can overwhelm you with all they have. And I think I have the same taste as you. As for Ozzie, maybe he needs a Harriet. π

All those quilts look amazing. Love the one with all the stars in varying sizes.
Poor Ozzie — must have been rather frightened of people coming at him with clippers and toothbrushes! He looks very handsome!

I cracked up seeing Ozzie on the counter, and was looking forward to some wild story! I’ve been there on the grooming thing. Vicious boy. Ha!
and from the previous post, brocolini is wonderful, my cousin had it when I visited her and she sauted it in olive oil and garlic and it was divine!

I too am feeling the pull of a new project. I think for every three or four UFOs we complete, we should work on a new project- but try to get it to completion and NOT leave it as a UFO!

Vicious, my patootie! That’s ridiculous. Anything that looks that sweet can’t be vicious–unless maybe somebody ticked him off, you think? I love his haircut, and I bet he can see better now. But, tell me, what is this dog doing on the kitchen counter top? Huh?

I have to say I also love these posts about Ozzie – he cracks me up also and hardly looks vicious – I’m sure it was the groomer, LOL. Seriously that face is just to cute and sweet. Looks like some great projects to pick from – you go girl π
Hugs – Karen

Coming here to your little “space” is quickly becoming one of my favorite parts of the day! That quilt with the Allspice would be gorgeous! And I love your posh quilt! That fabric is so beautiful. I am hoarding a bit myself, waiting for that perfect project.
What would you say to week long house guest? I will bind quilts and do dishes for a bit of your company and inspiration! Just a thought :). Thank you so much for sharing parts of your life and your adventures with Ozzie! Love Stacy

Oops, one more thing. I am not much of a sweet/savory person myself, but my mom makes that salad with spinach, strawberries and poppyseed dressing. She convinced me to try it and it was WONDERFUL! The peas would fit in well. I can get you the dressing recipe if they didn’t provide it. You wont be disappointed! Let me know. Love Stacy

Sweet Little Ozzie vicious??? That just can’t be. I think they made it up. Or maybe he was shocked just a time to many by those irons and he has a Jekyl/Hyde personality. You’re a bad girl Nicole. You know you shouldn’t be looking at new quilt projects LOL!

Love that star quilt you are contemplating. And Happy Birthday a couple days early! Do they have a Tower of Terror in Disney? That’s my favorite ride in Disneyworld. I could go on it a hundred times in a row, much to my husband’s dismay!

Vicious? Seriously. Aren’t they trained to deal with dogs? I am loving all of thinking and wondering you are up to. I know it will be fantastic!

omgosh Nicole!! When I saw your post and seeing Ozzie on the counter, my thoughts were “oh no, what did Ozzie do this time?” Whew…I thought he had jumped on the counter into trouble π
What a lovely kit of fabrics…so rich and warm!

Love both your choices. Have just finished reading all of your blog….you do the most beautiful quilts. We do have similar tastes. Was tempted to do the two colour quilt but don’t have enough fabrics. I’ll join you if you decided to do either of the quilts you have chosen. And can’t wait for the next (mis)adventure of Ozzie!!!

So you have a viscious dog, huh, lol, that is funny. Maybe you can rent him out to people that need to learn to put things away. He could earn his keep that way. lol, I don’t know, Nicole, that is some dog you have. I think the throwing up in the car would have been the last straw for me, lol. Ok, which one one of these “new” projects are you going to start now? And I am looking forward to your final presentation of the produce goodies.

Look at that “vicious” boy on your counter! Whatever….they shouldn’t be groomers if they’re afraid of the dogs they groom. Who would be nervous around that adorable baby? Oh well!
Your fabrics and pattern choices are absolutely gorgeous, as usual, Nicole! I am in love with the creations of the Homestead Hearth girls, too.
Happy Birthday….tomorrow!! Wait, it’s your birthday MONTH, right? You must celebrate the entire month, I’m thinkin’! You go girl!! Give Mickey a hug for me!
