Not To Worry

Another table topper back from my quilter. I used Sandy Gervais fabrics for this one. I loved it when she designed for Moda. Her colors are so rich and saturated. I know she is still designing, but I am not sure for whom. Does anyone know? I miss her collections. I don't think I used an actual pattern for this quilt. I believe I used triangle papers. Each block is made up of two large half-square triangles in a color family, and two units made up of four smaller half-square triangles in the same color family.

I saw my doctor yesterday about my black-out issue on Monday while eating a sandwich. Some food I was eating got stuck partway down my esophagus and when I stood up to go get some water I keeled over in a faint. He explained to me that the esophagus is a very sensitive area controlled in part by the autonomic nervous system. If something is going wrong there (like food being stuck), blood will leave your brain and go to the affected area. When blood suddenly leaves your brain, you black out. That is exactly what happened. He is positive my fainting was directly related to that specific incident and not anything more dire. Of course, if it ever happens again I am going to be having a boatload of tests.

Hope you all have a terrific weekend. October has definitely left the party and we are suddenly in gloomy grey November. I am really in the mood to sew, but I am at my father's so that will not be in the cards. Maybe this coming week if I have time I will cut out a few easy things I could stitch on my Featherweight at his house.

  10. I remember when you were making this table topper as I snapped a picture of it during your assembly. You used Cupcake Mix Foundation papers #1. It is still on my “to do” list! Love yours and I also love Sandy Gervais!! I wonder why a designer moves from one company to another…is the creative license different or the benefits of one company better or do they get dropped if their fabric/pattern lines do not sell well? I have increasingly been finding some very talented pattern designers on Instagram, that sell their patterns on their websites or on ETSY. I must admit that I do get a bit bored with some designers that use the same colors on every line they produce, but it must work or they wouldn’t repeat it, right? Have a great time with your Dad!!

  13. I’m happy to hear that your doctor is confident about the cause of your fainting event. That’s reassuring. Sandy Gervais’ designs are so bright & cheery. It sounds like they’re available now from another fabric company…sometimes change is good! Have a nice weekend with your dad!

  19. I’m so glad everything turned out ok and the Dr is confident it is nothing more serious! I have never fainted, but one of the effects of aging that has impacted me is slower esophageal motility. I would’t be surprised if that discussion crops up. And yes – drink drink drink…
I’ve been quietly lurking around the last several weeks as we were traveling for two out of state family weddings. But all your work has been gorgeous and precise as usual.

  22. you have a featherweight!!!! I do too. ;p gosh, you must be so physically sore still.
please take it easy. maybe do some binding so you can chat or watch a movie. I think sitting at a sewing machine will hurt.
my husband was so sore for weeks. poor guy.

  25. Wonderful to hear everything turned out ok at the Dr! I have two Featherweights – one I saved and bought in high school and I inherited my Mom’s when she died. Love them both. Enjoy your time with your Dad! And continue to get rest and heal!

  28. I’m glad your doctor was able to explain it. Makes perfect sense! Re: comment above: I think Pat Sloan is actually now with Benartex.

  31. Glad you are feeling better. Sounds like you had an eoisode of vasovagal syncope where the food aggitated the vagel nerve which causes the heart to beat irregularly momentarily leading to the faintness. Sometimes crossing your legs can break the light headedness.
Love the quilt you are working on. I am also a big fan of Sandy Gervaise. I bought a lot of her latest collection “Adel in Autumn” with the most beautiful saturated colors. I see she will have a companion collection “Adel in Spring” out around Aprik 2022. Seems like many designers are switching companies lately. Many, like Gervaise, have done to Riley Blake after years with Moda.
