Not Up To Much

003
I have been a lazy blogger this week.  There isn't much going on in my life at the moment.  Just enjoying the last lazy days of summer.  Can you believe it is September already?  Good grief, this summer has flown by.

My desire to practice my machine quilting is still very much with me, and I have started working on another small Schnibble that I pieced well over a year ago, when I dabbled in "A Year of Schnibbles".  To tell you the truth, I do not recall the name of this pattern, nor do I remember the focus fabrics I used.  That border fabric, and the paisley were part of the same group, the rest were scraps from stash.  I finished the straight line quilting in one direction, and plan to quilt in the opposite direction as well, creating that fun cross hatch pattern that I like.  For the border, I think I will do stippling with black thread.

Here is another little top that I pulled out of a box of flimsies.  This could another good option for cross hatch quilting.  And we absolutely need one more baby quilt.  For sure.

Happy September everyone!

  1. Hi Nicole,
I’ve been meaning to comment back to you for a while. Baby Eva is beautiful and growing from her pictures. I know you are enjoying every minute of her. Your machine quilting looks great. There is a blogger “Ivory Springs”, the lady’s name is Wendy and she does awesome machine quilting on her Bernina. She is very willing to share all of her do’s and don’ts about machine quilting and I thought you might want to check her blog out. It really is a lot of practice that makes it go smoother. I feel like I have advanced beyond the beginner stage but still have mountains to climb. I’m so glad you are enjoying your new surroundings and look forward to reading your blog a lot.
    Best Wishes,
    Mary

  3. Hi Nicole! I’ve had fun catching up here since we’ve been away! Baby Evangeline is looking so pretty and I love Ozzie’s antics at getting to her new toys! Love your machine quilting, too, as well as the other projects you’ve got going! Sounds like life is good at the new house!
    Cheers!

  5. Maureen Noble’s book Machine Quilting is fabulous, and gives practice material to do on your machine quilting. Practice does make perfect (or at least perfect enough!). The way I jumped into free motion quilting was on a 90X90 picnic quilt. I stippled the whole thing on my Viking. Boy, after that it was much easier.

  7. Well done on the cross hatch quilting! Do you suppose that a larger quilt would be more of a challenge? I’ll have to check out the blog and the book that were mentioned by Mary and Diane,
The pastel quilt is so cute and I can just imagine the snuggly use Eva will get from it!!
Have been blanching butterbeans I bought at the Farmer’s Market today and have just put them in the freezer. Perhaps I’ll sew once more when the garden is kaput. I don’t have enough spoons for both. Bother!
I cannot believe it’s September either.
    Hugs!

  9. I’ve been wanting to try some cross hatch quilting on some of my little quilts & you give me the encouragement to try it. What stitch do you have your machine set on?

  11. Hi Nicole, I am just wondering what kind of batting you use for these quilts? Your quilting is great, just like the rest of your projects!! I love seeing the baby pictures, our grand baby is 8 now – some days I wish she was tiny again but there is still room on my lap for her!
