I was reading La Vie En Rosie today and read about a friend of hers, Pat Sloan, who is hosting a virtual retreat this weekend. It is called the OP Sew Along--OP stands for Orange Pile. Pat's theory is that we all have an orange pile sitting around neglected some where, and that if we all encourage each other in a marathon sewing weekend, we could reduce that pile of orange fabric and have a dandy quilt top out of it. She has a few rules regarding the fabrics and will be providing a pattern. It sounds like there is tons of room for individual creativity though. Oh, and prizes, tutorials, and lots of sharing.
I am all for reducing my stash these days, but I didn't think I had much in the way of orange fabrics. Then I remembered… my taste in oranges runs more towards rusts, and what do you know? I had a fair pile of them. I spread them out on the seat of a chair, and it was a bit difficult to really see what I had going since Sophie had to be right up in the middle of everything. And yes, that is my slipper she is carrying around with every where with her. It's her new Lovey.
Here is a better shot of my orange/rust stash.
And then I remembered these fabrics!
Wait, let me get the dog off them.
Check out Pat's website for more information. This could really be fun!

Nicole, your collection of fabrics for the Sew Along is wonderful. Is that the ‘Cotton Blossom’ collection? I can’t wait to see your finished project after this ‘Sew Along’. By the way,I especially love the little furry one with the slipper in amonst the rust fabrics. She looks so cute. As for me, I was going through my meager stash at 4 am this morning and just didn’t find any orange. Then I remembered a ‘project in waiting’ bagged and ready to start with a focus fabric from last year’s ‘Twigs and Berries’ from Moda. Beautiful leaves in bright fall colors, and all the blenders and border fabric, so I can’t break those up. Completely down hearted I came back upstairs and there staring at me are two quilts ready for binding that I promised hubby AND myself I would finish before I go on to an new project. Besides, one of them is a large throw for me that I really need to curl up in cause the cold weather is wreaking havock with me. We got 12″ of snow yesterday, with more expected today along with freezing temperatures! I’m going into the DT’s because I need a fabric fix … I have been trying so hard to be a good girl and not go fabric shopping **heavy sigh**. Ah well, I guess I’ll just suck it up, do my bindings and say, Have a great time!!! I expect lots of pictures!

I’ll have to go check it out. I have a pile of oranges that I was going to use for a pumpkin quilt that never happened. Sophie is very cute!

You mean you don’t have any orange Batiks in there LOL! Sophie is too funny. In my house Cleo would be laying all over my pile of fabric. Sounds like a fun sew along, I’ll look forward to seeing your finished project.

Love that dog…..she knows how to be
comfortable and get in the picture to boot!
I am always searching for my other slipper- my 2 goldens take it with them when they greet people and to greet us if we move a little. LOL
Love all your batiks.

I’m gonna do this too–the orange challenge, not sit on your fabrics.

Love the Cotton Blossoms. I picked up a Layer Cake of those when I went on a shop hop in KC last August. I love the brick with the aqua. Virtual retreat, what a great idea.

Gorgeous, gorgeous fabrics…and the dog is pretty cute, too. Growing up in the 60s and 70s, I swore I would never like orange again…EVER, but secret confession: it’s coming back around and I am secretly liking a splash here and there. Your choices are very lovely.

I just found your blog thru Blackberry Creek and heard about the Orange challenge over at Pat’s. I really don’t think I have any oranges at all!! I will have to go check as it sounds like an interesting project, although I may be a bit late in finding out about this!

While orange isn’t my colour either I am liking what I see here. I will come back after the weekend to see how it all went.
