Quick, Before the Power Goes Out Again…

Group phot
I have to post this quickly, as our power has been shut off since Saturday night, and just came back on (it's Monday around 11:00 PM).  They tell us they are shutting us down again tomorrow until Thursday or Friday, so I need to get this up or I will miss my chance.  I cannot even begin to tell you what a pain it has been to have no electrical power for all these days.  Every Costco, Home Depot, Lowes is sold out of generators.  We have one on order but it won't come until later in the week.  California is a total disaster right now between the areas that are on fire or are without power. I have my milk in an ice cooler, haven't had a shower, cannot flush my toilets or run any water, and will kill for a coffee.  It is harsh my friends, and I am not exaggerating.  I am about ready to move to Canada, I tell you.

Anyway, we managed to have our annual family Halloween Party and I wanted to share some photos of the costumes.

Our family came as a circus group this year.  My husband was the ringmaster, I was a clown, Sara was a tiger and Eva was a little acrobat girl.  We actually tied this year with our arch-nemesis group, my niece's family.  They came as the Adamm's family.  The baby was supposed to be Uncle Fester, but he refused to wear the bald head wig.  I am sure they would have won, otherwise.

Here is a close up of Sara and me.  She won big time:  Best Effort and Best of Show!  Her makeup was amazing, and she stayed in snarly character all night long.  She didn't go to art school for nothin', right?

The Donald, in the suit many say he belongs in.  I wonder how hard it was to wash that fake tan makeup off.

I am blanking on who my nephew is supposed to be, but he was passing out real McDonald's Cheeseburgers all night long.  If you know who is he is, please tell me.

My hippie cousin and his pirate wench wife.  He actually looked exactly like my brother in law's brother from Washington State, and people kept saying "Oh is that David, down for a visit?".  It was pretty funny.

Pirates were a popular theme.

This is Slash from Gun's n Roses.

And this gunslinger and his gal are pretty funny.

And here's my dad, living proof that at 94, you are never too old to get into a costume and enjoy the Halloween fun.

There were plenty more fabulous costumes, but I either didn't get a good shot or missed the photo completely.  Apologies to those I missed. Darn.

Have a happy Halloween everyone.  Wish us luck out here in California where pretty much nothing is working right at the moment.

  4. Hamburglar! Too funny, your father looks like Albert Einstein without the crazy hair.
Seven years ago, after Superstorm Sandy hit our area we were without power for 2 solid weeks. . . .I know exactly what you are going through. It was even tougher for us because my husband uses insulin. . .and it needs to be kept cold or it goes bad.
Right after that I marched him down to Home Depot and we got a generator.
Stay safe & we will hear from you on the other side.

  7. I couldn’t wait to see the photos and they absolutely did not disappoint. Fabulous Halloween party and lots of fun I’m sure. Used to commute between Orange and Riverside counties in SoCal. One of my scariest memories was driving the fwy late at night and counting 16 sites of flames in the hills close to the fwy, firemen all over the place. Not sure how I feel about everyone having their own generator though especially if they are powered by gasoline. How is that safer? Prayers for fizzling of the Santa Ana winds which make everything crazy. And rain would be nice, preferably without lightning. Be strong Nicole, I know this is difficult.

  10. I always so enjoy your Halloween party recap. Sara’s makeup was amazing! I’m sorry about your prolonged power woes. I can’t even imagine the inconvenience or the danger of those fires. Stay safe!

  25. I am so happy that your family could enjoy the Halloween party before the nightmare began. Your family is so fun and it certainly looks like a party you would never want to miss. Wish I could wiggle my nose and transplant you to Indiana for a while. At least until the all clear call goes out. I have plenty of sewing machines and extra fabric to keep you busy. Stay safe and plan your next quilts while you wait. Coffee is so overrated!

  28. Lol on not know that was the Hamburglar! Your costumes were fantastic as always and I can’t believe how grown up Eva looks! They grow too fast! I hear you on the power outages. My retrea was cancelled after one day because the hotels power and entire town were being shut down. It got dark pretty quick. Funny too because there wasn’t any wind at all and my friends place twenty minutes away had power. It’s all very scary. Maybe you need to go out of town for a drive, maybe just to shower and charge your phones 😂

  37. I’m glad that you managed to have some fun during this miserable and frustrating time. I’ll be sending good wishes your way! My pipes are frozen and my dryer broke. Feeling a teeny, tiny bit of your pain. Here’s to living life in the 21st century…just like the pioneers!

  40. Great costumes! You all put so much effort into it, it must be hard to choose a winner. But your daughter’s makeup was incredible.
Sorry to hear that they’ve cut your power again. I know how frustrating that can be. But thankfully, you’re not in a fire area. Stay safe.

  43. Love that the Hamburglar was passing them out! Great pictures as always and hope you are safe and out of the fire zone. A former neighbor went through the hurricane aftermath in PR for 9 months with no power – she said she figured out how to cook absolutely everything on a gas grill and also went through 3 generators…Hope your luck is better!
