Quilting–Finished and Ready to Give

IMG_2121

I have been getting a ton of quilts back from my fabulous quilter, and thought I would share some of the results with you.  I will wait to show photos of the quilts until I get the dreaded bindings sewn on.  I have finished several, but have so many more to do for my big Christmas Quilt Giveaway to my family.  Wish me luck.  I found if I sew all day long I can finish one and a half quilts.

The quilt above is a pattern by Denise Sheehan called Mocha Trails.  I used a collection called Pure by Sweetwater, supplemented liberally with backgrounds and tans from my stash.

This quilt has a decidedly masculine feel to it, so it will be given to one of my nephews.

If you click on the photo to enlarge it, you will see the wonderful modern circular quilting design my quilter selected.  She is brilliant at matching up quilt designs to suit the style of a quilt.  The blocks are very angular, so the circular quilting design is a wonderful juxtaposition.

Hope you all had a fun Halloween.  Eva and I spent the day together because it was a school holiday for some reason.  First we rocked out to The Monster Mash on YouTube.

Then, because I didn't carve a pumpkin, she painted a box to be my front porch decoration.

Then, we had dinner at her daddy's house and went trick or treating on his street.  Lots of kids out and it was fun to see all the cute costumes.  I can hardly believe it is November already.  September and October have just flown by.

  1. I really like the subdued colors in the quilt. You really tackle some pretty complicated projects. I also should have written before when all the others did to tell you that I enjoy your blog, and it is one of the few that I faithfully read.
I just bought a new book of Heather Peterson’s called Starburst. It uses chevrons and it looks like something you might enjoy trying too. Check for it under Trends and Traditions.

  7. Beautiful blocks, beautiful quilting; a handsome quilt to give and to receive. Keep up with the binding. That’s a sore point for me, got so many quilted and binding is waiting, waiting. Eva is growing up pretty quickly, pretty as can be.

  10. I like the way your quilter duplicated the border design in the quilting! I’ve been having many of my recent quilts done with ‘modern’ straight-line quilting. Eva looks quite content creating her ‘pumpkin’ on the box! That’s a fun way to spend the day on Halloween! 🎃

  16. Beautiful, for any recipient! I always wondered with a quilt design like that, do you get it back with a ton of threads to bury, or does your quilter do that for you, or does she creatively backstitch over other lines so that there are no stops/starts?

  19. Gorgeous quilt; I can’t wait to see the rest! Also enjoyed the book reviews as I seem to be in a mediocre book cycle lately so maybe I’ll try some of your suggestions.
