R & R

Time for some R & R.  My husband, Ozzie, and I are going to visit my sister Andrea and her husband Rick up in Granite Bay.  That is my choice of destination when things have just been a bit too much.  Which has been the case lately.  I can always rest and reflect and collect myself at their place. 

Time off requested from work.  Check.  Sewing machine and project packed.  Check.  Clothes assembled and ready to pack.  Check.  (Yes, that would be a Hawaiian lei.  I always want to be Luau Ready).

My husband had said I needed to be all set to go first thing this morning, so we can beat the Holiday Traffic through Sacramento.  Were his clothes packed?  No.  Was he ready to go?  No.  Was Ozzie ready to go?  Well, yes.  Ozzie is always ready to go for a ride in the car.  What was my husband doing at 7:30 in the morning while we were supposed to be getting ready for our mini vacation?

Yes, Friends.  He was roasting a chicken.  Sometimes, I do not even bother to ask.

But, I am good to go!  Can't wait to sit in Andrea's beautiful kitchen stitching up a storm on the Featherweight, with watermelon margaritas chilling in the fridge.  The food will be wonderful–it always is.  Andrea curled up on her love seat yesterday with some of Ina Garten's books and has all our meals planned.  I packed a couple of good books and the latest fashion magazines.   If the phone rings, it won't be for me.  With any luck.

Ahren is taking care of Sophie back at home in Salinas.  Sophie is not a good traveler.  I'll be back on Tuesday, with some pictures of the weekend.  If I don't end up napping through it.

  15. Oh Nicole, I was catching up on my blog reading and was so shocked to hear of your recent medical issues. Life can be such a challenge at times. So glad you are doing better. Hope you have a truly fabulous, restful, playful, uplifting, healthy and reguvenating weekend. The weather is suppose to be great up there this weekend.

  29. I know the men on Oprah tell us the reason they never do anything around the house is because they can never please their wives. And while that is the most beautifully prepared roasted chicken I have ever seen…IT’S 7:30 in MORNING!!! How could you NOT say something!!!
    Will Sophie be jealous that Ozzie got a vacation or will she be happy to have Ahren and the house all to herself?
    I hope you are having the best time!

  33. Thanks Mary. I did relax the whole weekend and feel so re-energized now.
    My sister did all the cooking and I just sat on the couch and sipped wine
    and made encouraging comments. It was great!
