Ruler Organizer and Mother’s Day Haul

This little blue gadget is called "Your Nest Organizer" and is one of my most appreciated sewing accessories. It is a little rubbery gizmo with slots that perfectly hold rulers and other notions.  I use mine to hold smaller rulers that I am frequently grabbing for a project I am working on.  I hate having three or four rulers laying on my cutting table surface, taking up space, yet never right where I need them when I reach for them.  This invention corrals everything neatly together in one place.  It is hard to tell, but I think I must have at least six or seven plastic rulers, instructions and other tools on it.

For Mother's Day, my generous son gave me a gift certificate to Fatquartershop.com.  My order finally arrived yesterday, taking nearly a month to get to me.  They say they are short-staffed during COVID-19, but this sort of delay in delivery is pretty unprecedented.  I got a big spool of Aurifil thread, one of those new Olfa Endurance rotary cutter blades that last forever (they really do) and a fat eighth bundle of a 3 Sisters collection called Cinnaberry.

I have a plan in mind for this that I'd love to execute before Christmas.

Cinnaberry

I have a lot of irons in the fire right now, so we shall see if this gets made!  I love the simple elegance of the design and color scheme.

  1. Thanks for mentioning the Olfa Endurance rotary cutter blads. They are new to me and I definitely would appreciate blades that last longer.

  4. I agree with you Nicole, the wait time at FQS is too long. I’m glad someone else thinks so too. I’ve been going to Etsy more and more. The shop owners are quick and they have better prices and they are probably hurting during this time.
Beautiful fabric and I was not aware of endurance blades until a week ago…good to know they last and last.

  7. I have to check out the nest gizmo thing as I am always mis-laying my smaller rulers. I have a kit for the Cinnaberry quilt that I got last December but still haven’t made – on my to-do list for the fall.

  10. Very elegant plan for your Cinnaberry fabric. What fun things for Mothers Day. The wait for FQS has been difficult. I’ll be calling around to local shops for a while. It’s hard to wait a month for “wishful” fabric. But, it will get better, as will everything eventually.

  13. I, too, am making the Cinnaberry quilt. I cut the whole quilt out. It goes very fast. I am making HST oversized instead of using the papers.
    Then I got
Sidetracked making two identical quilts. I thought they would be fast because
They start with a panel.😂 But I have to piece 40 nine inch blocks to go
Around the panels. I will get back to Cinnaberry though. I saw a finished
One in a booth at a quilt show and it is beautiful.

  16. The ruler holder looks very useful. I’m waiting on ½ yard of fabric from FQS. A month or so ago I waited over a month for a small amount from them, too. I understand it’s going to be slow during the pandemic, but it doesn’t make the waiting any easier! Those longer-lasting blades look interesting! Stay well!
