Second Hand Clothes

I am telling you, this quilt is so easy I believe it is making itself.

No kidding, I started cutting out the fabric for this quilt around 8:30 in the morning, and this photo was taken at 4:30 that same afternoon.  In between making the blocks I ran over to another property we own, supervised a load of rock being delivered, had the driver follow me back to my house for another delivery, went to the grocery store, picked up Eva from school did two loads of wash and put Eva down for a nap.

This ridiculously easy and fun pattern is Second Hand Clothes by Bonnie Blue Quilt Company, now called Red Crinoline Quilts.  I bought a kit that had fabric and the pattern.  Of course I hated the fabric in the kit, and substituted everything out.  I did not use one single fabric from the kit. The fabric I did use is almost all Kim Diehl designs, but from several collections over the years.  I added in some blacks from my stash, because you know my rule "Every scrappy quilt benefits from some black thrown into the mix".

I love this quilt.  It is meant to go to a loved one, but I just might need to make one for myself!  What you see on the design wall isn't quite done.  I plan to add a row of pieced blocks and one more row of sold blocks to the bottom, making it 7 rows wide and 8 rows long.  I think this will end up being a perfect nap quilt.  Great on the couch, nice when lying on top of the bed as a little cover up.

I am SO happy I chose these colors.  They make me feel all warm and cozy and happy.  I am still auditioning fabric for the set in triangles that make up the border.

I highly recommend this pattern.  It calls for a lot of chain piecing and is super fast to make up.

  7. I love the fabrics too. The golds and teals are really nice in the mix. What a versatile pattern! I can see this in everything from reproduction prints to modern bright solids. Fun!

  19. Wow, I am amazed that you got all that done in one day, along with your other errands! I have had this pattern for a few years (not surprising, is it??)and I have those Kim Diehl fabrics….thanks for showing us this option!

  61. You totally need my address!!! Perfect in our home…. I love it. You know what I really like…is talking to others about a quilt like this. They look at triangles and say they can never quilt…. Squares are just as great….look at this piece.
