This is a kit I have had in my stash for years. It was put together by Bonnie Blue Quilts, and is based on their pattern Second Hand Clothes, which I believe is one of their all time most popular offerings. One thing that Bonnie Blue does, that I don't think many other pattern companies do, is to remake their older patterns in new color ways. That seems to be a pretty brilliant concept to me.
So many of us see a pattern, perhaps in blues and browns, and think "Oh that's pretty, but I am not really into those colors", and then we forget about the pattern. What Bonnie Blue does is use their imagination and wait a year or so, and then come out with a "new" design of the same pattern. They will offer a kit on their website, say in red and cream, same pattern, but with a completely different feel. When we brown and blue naysayers see the quilt done up in red we have a whole new take on it. "Wow, how about that? I love it. I may need to have that kit". What is old is new again.
Some of you may recall that Bonnie Blue did this with their pattern James River Blues.
That's what I'm talking about!
So, I was fondling my Second Hand Clothes kit, and thinking "This is a great pattern and kit. Why have I left this sitting in the closet all this time?" Then I opened up the pattern and look what I found–
They had included the old pattern cover in the envelope for some reason, along with the new cover showing the current kit colorway. But now the wheels in my head are turning. How gorgeous would this quilt be done in bright fabrics? Don't you just love choices?

What fun! Yes, I love choices and that must be why I love scrap quilts.
With the brighter colors in the last photo, the grid pattern of the very light diamonds is less apparent when you view the quilt up close.
It’s fun to see your fabric selection, too, and it’s obvious you have a great stash!
Hugs!

I had to smile when I read your post, as I just found the same (neglected) pattern the other day as I’ve been doing a major organization of my craft room. You got me curious on other examples, “googled”, and found another terrific version made by Paula herself (here: http://www.textilehousequilts.com/2013/07/claiming-domain-name-and-more-paula.html?m=1). It’s a neat pattern!

It is supposed to say – so something in the air? I didn’t want you to think I have totally lost my mind. Self correcting makes me crazy sometimes. Sorry about that!

I don’t have a kit but I do have the pattern. I recently saw it done in different colors on Pinterest and loved it done in blue…..I might have to go with that!

As Beth mentioned above, the pattern has yet another colorway and it is even more beautiful. The pictures in her patterns just don’t do the quilts justice. When I took a class with Paula (see Beth’s link) she had a great trunk show for us and to see them in person was a real treat. She mentioned that the new blue version was a bit unique because they tried to keep the light prints in the center to give the illusion of color reaching out. I picked up the pattern but not the kit. I think I need the kit. lol!

I think that you’ve inadvertently started a quilt-a-long! I, too, read your post this morning, went downstairs and got my pattern out. I still had my FQ bundle of Metropolitan Fair and so I started cutting!!! Thanks, Nicole. I’ve had this pattern for at least a couple years now. 😉

The holiday season and beyond has been hectic, so I’m just catching up on my blog reading. Really enjoyed your recap of accomplishments in 2013. You did get a lot done. Congrats on all those beautiful finishes — and especially Shiloh, which, I agree, is spectacular. May you have much more sewing time in 2014 (I wish the same for myself). And thank you for another year of always interesting, often thought-provoking and always generous blog posts. Happy New Year!

I so agree with the pattern thing. I used to turn away from a pattern I might like just because of their choice of fabrics. I’ve learned to look beyond their choices and make my own. YES, choice is good!
