Simple Abundance

Well, I am certainly late to the party in collecting this fabric line.  What happened to me was an excess of part time jobs that interfered with my awareness of all the wonderful collections out there.  I am making an effort to get caught up.  In the nick of time.

The beautiful fabrics pictured above are Camille Roskelley's Simple Abundance, which she and her mom Bonnie Olaveson designed for Moda.  My selection of fabrics was somewhat limited by the timing of my purchase–in other words, the shop didn't have every piece in the collection left in stock.  I filled in a bit by making an online purchase of some of the tone on tone fabrics, as well as my favorite large scale print with the pale yellow background.  Isn't this fabric yummy?  Fresh, springy, modern, my favorite colors….

I mentioned yesterday that I am thinking it may be time for another basket quilt.  I think this pattern might be pretty spectacular with the Simple Abundance collection.  A great juxtaposition of fresh, modern fabrics and a traditional quilt block pattern.

As for my choice of background fabric, did I mention that I have quite a bit of cream fabric with a pale yellow polka dot?   The PERFECT background fabric.  A key rule in fabric shopping is to never EVER pass up a pale yellow polka dot on cream background when you see it.  Ask Pamkittymorning if you don't believe me.

Drumroll please.  Here's the pattern!

I will not be mentioning the pattern designer's name in this post because I have it on good authority that her head is getting so big that she needs extra headroom in her car and is having trouble getting seated comfortably on air planes.  It must be hard being Her.

  1. oh no! I was thinking of making the picnic schnibble but this one is far too tempting and I haven’t hit the final purchase button on my shopping cart that has a few patterns I want. Do I really have to spend the whole day at my day job???

  3. Perfect! That will make a lovely quilt. I have a Jelly Roll of that line, but it’s so pretty I haven’t had the courage to cut it! I just want to gaze at it for a little longer.

  5. That will be delightful in that line of fabric. The “Big Headed Carrie” brought me a fat quarter bundle from Spring Market and I have used every square inch – making three quilts with it. I made one using my Between Friends pattern and two Piece of Cake quilts (pattern by Camille). Enjoy!

  7. I absolutely love this line. I made my first Schnibble with it back in September and I keep thinking I need to buy more before it’s gone forever but then there is so many other lines I’d like to glom that I stop myself. I can only cheer you on during your Mojo endeavors because after I made Picnic (Schnibbles for November) I have developed a true aversion to basket quilts. I will just admire from afar, cheer the brave souls that tackle them and enjoy my one and only. Good Luck!

  15. I’m going to make one basket quilt in my lifetime and the basket is going to have a handle. That’s my rule and I’m sticking with it….I think…I sure love the MoJo. Will the large floral be your border? That’s my favorite piece!

  17. Love the fabric! On a completely different topic, I have to thank you, Nicole. A year ago (maybe two??) you talked in one of your posts about U-shaped, 2 point pins and how great they were for seams. Well, I went right out and bought a pack but, well, you know how it is…I put them in my tools basket and never tried them. That is, until this week. Boy, were you right – they are great! So here’s a belated thanks for a great tip!
