Simple Granny, All But Borders

IMG_2064

Simple Granny is a finish!  ABD (all but borders).  I love the pure saturated colors of the fabric collection I used–Fancy by Lily Ashbury.  I want to use one of the larger prints in the line for the outer border, but am undecided as to which color to go with.  Help me out–The large print comes in blue, yellow, green or orange.

See the large prints?  The top four prints on the left.  Which one do you think would be best as a border?

  1. Guess it depends if you are keeping the quilt or giving it away? What color would work best for your house?

  4. Love the Simple Granny blocks and your fabric choices!
As for the border color … you’d mentioned that this might be Miss E’s summer quilt, so I’ll ask if she has a favorite color of the ones you listed. When our younger son was about her age, his favorite color was orange. When he got a little bit older, he announced his favorite color was blue. When asked what became of orange, he replied that blue was his king favorite color and orange was now his queen favorite!
Personally, I like the third row large TOT (tone on tone) designs since your Granny blocks have some of the large scale prints. You make stellar choices, so methinks your choice will be perfect.
    What fun!
    Hugs!

  7. Well, I’m partial to blue, but the orange really catches my eye. But I don’t think you could go wrong with any of the four.

  10. I’m voting blue, unless the quilt is for someone who has a favorite color, or wants it to match a certain decor. Still, I think blue. 😉

  13. blue first choice (cause I’m a blue kinda person) and then the orange. Can’t wait to hear your final decision!

  16. I honestly have no idea. I keep looking at the choices & changing my mind. It will be interesting to see what you decide.

  19. After reading the previous comments, it looks like I’m going with the majority and picking orange or blue. My first choice would have been red, though.
You really are pumping out the quilts lately, Nicole!!

  22. They will all work equally well – it’s a personal choice which color to use – I would use blue, but I am fond of ‘cool’ colors 🙂 BUT, that 3rd row red is pretty stunning 🙂

  25. I vote orange! Enough contrast with the background fabric and not so dark it would overwhelm the pieced blocks.

  28. Yellow would make it soft. Blue or orange make it bold.
Do you have more of the fabrics that you used? A checkerboard or piano key border would compliment the components in the quilt block.
Just a few thoughts. Miss E is a lucky girl regardless of the border you choose. A fun quilt.

  31. I love the green, but the orange is very eye popping. I think the blue is too dark, and the yellow is too light.

  34. It’s beautiful! I think I would choose either the blue (I think it has all the others colors in, too) or the green it give it a calming effect. Do you have one of the prints already on hand? If not you can choose the one which is the best bargain and easiest to find.

  37. I would take a piece of each and lay it under the edge. The right one will scream at you and then you’ll know!

  40. I’m going to be odd girl out and suggest the green, it’s both cool for summer and not overwhelming. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

  43. Lol to all the different answers! I’ll vote green :). Cute and quick finish of those blocks–you’re so prolific. How are wedding plans coming along for your son?

  46. OK, I guess I am not in the majority here. I was thinking how nice the green would be. Kinda like nice, plush grass! Whatever you choose I am sure it will look great!

  49. Well, I guess I am the rebel on this vote, because I like the green! 😊 But, in reality any of them would be beautiful!
