Snow in Santa Margaritaville

Snow on truck

Remember my post from last Friday?  The one with the picture of the plum blossoms, and me bragging about how spring was here already in sunny California?  La de da and hurray for me.  Well check it out.

My son lives 100 miles south of us, in a town called Santa Margarita, right on the Central Coast of California.  Nearby towns are San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles and Santa Barbara.  It doesn't get cold there.  It is a hot place.  Especially this time of the year, when the plum and almond trees are in bloom, the mustard fields are a riot of golden yellow and the acacia trees are shaking their pollen every where.  It certainly does not snow.

Imagine his surprise when he woke up to the sight above–his truck covered with a fair dusting of snow!

I am certain I jinxed our fair weather when I bragged about it.  Now our 70 degree days have been replaced with lightening and thunder storms, hail and snow!  Acckkk.  That will teach me.

  1. Wow – yes, we got a little cocky here with our 50 degree days last week, but woke up to snow the last 2 mornings. It’s not quite spring yet!

  3. Nicole…I moved from NE Ohio down to TN 3 yrs ago and I am so glad I did. These old bones couldn’t handle all that snow and cold. I so love TN and the great Quilt Shops that are around here. Just traveling around TN to go to the shops is wonderful. The scenery is terrific. Love your blog. I get my coffee and come to your site each and every morning. Thank you for sharing your quilts and tips. Would like to see Ozzie and Sophie more though lol….Elaine

  5. Eep! I hope that it didn’t damage any of the trees that were just beginning to blossom. What a shock! I personally love snow, but I would have never expected it in southern CA!

  7. There’s no snow here in the southland, but I can see frost on the neighbor’s roof – practically unheard of *s* I got an email from the in-laws that it was snowing in Atascadero. I thought there were some flakes falling . . . I had no idea that it stuck.

  9. Well, that picture looks familiar to me. Except there’s about 6 more feet of it here. The weather is crazy this year and here’s proof. I hope your spring weather comes back soon. And when it does send it my way!

  11. Wow, white stuff. I was at a guild meeting last night in San Diego’s north county (Poway) when the hail started. It pounded on the metal cafeteria patio roof so loudly, it sounded like drums. Hail the size of small gumballs. I got pelted with it again about an hour later on my way home. Freaky weather. And tomorrow we’ll be wearing t-shirts and shorts again.

  19. And I was feeling quite jealous from your post the other day, but I woke up to the same sight at my house with snow this morning. Of course in Idaho I was expecting it.

  21. its above 0C here and raining, the ice rink in the back has melted overnight and the snow is shrinking…I did hear on the news this am that there was snow in Arizona.
It will be scary here when the temps return to normal and all the rain turns tho ice.

  25. Haha, yeah it was a surprise. I looked outside my window and the rain was falling really slowly… and I was like, hey wait. IT’S SNOWING!!! So the ponies got blankets that day, and I sure was glad that I had new tires on the truck because the road was *super* slushy on the way to school. The landlord Pat says that it has only snowed 3 times before in the 12 years she and her husband have lived there. 🙂
