I think it is time for a little reward to my blogging friends! There is much to celebrate in my life right now, and I can't think of a better way to express my gratitude than a little blog give away. Yes, my heart is becoming lighter as I imagine giving these little darlings away.
What I have above is four, count 'em FOUR honey buns in the fabric group Harmony by Jan Patek for Moda. Honey buns are 1 1/2 inch wide strips of fabric that lend themselves to all sorts of fun projects. And with four of them, your options are wide open. Like what, you ask? Well, imagine a log cabin quilt using the reds, blues, blacks and greens, with the light tans for contrast….That could be really nice. Or, let your imagination run free and come up with your own creation.
So, comment on this post and on Friday I will announce a winner, and send the four honey buns off to one lucky person. The only catch is, you have to let us know how you will use them, and update us whenever you complete your project!
Ah, to give is more blessed than to receive. Truer words were never spoken.

Wow those are pretty! And I would have to know right now how I would use them? First I would play with them and imagine with them. Then I would hunt for patterns that I like. Then I would choose one and get to work. Maybe a bag, or a quilt. In the end, I would definitely use them. Thanks for the chance at winning. Your home is looking so fresh and clean- maybe you will want to stay. Betty

Oh wow Nicole. I would LOVE to make a quilt for one of my children. It would take a lot of the time factor out having the strips already cut. Thanks so much for such a sweet giveaway, and for entering me 🙂 Enjoy your day!

Ahhhh!!! Pick me! I already have the perfect pattern – it’s a pattern from Fig Tree that has pinwheels made from these honey buns, and I’m desperate to make it, These honey buns look like they have the perfect mix of contrasts. This is a great giveaway, Nicole – thanks for the chance!!!

I would love to win these honey bun. I have used jelly rolls but never the honey buns. I am teaching my DD that has Downs Syndrome how to sew and the charm squares, jelly rolls and honey buns are perfect for her to learn with. Thank you.

I think I would like to make this twisty-twirly-girly-skirt and wear it anytime I go to a quilt class, quilt show, or meet new friends. The pattern calls for one honey bun but I think it will take all 4 to cover my honey bun and jelly rolls. If any strips were left over I could make a matching purse and hat…..maybe even a vest!!

Yessiree Bob, that’s just what I would do.

Would love to make a wedding quilt from these for a young couple I know that will be saying “I Do” in August. I sew on the machine, but hand quilt so would appreciate to be held accountable to get it done!

You are so kind and generous. I love the idea of a log cabin quilt. I have not used a honey bun before so it would be fun to search out quilt patterns for them.

I would love to win the honey buns since I use lots of Jan’s patterns and fabric so this would fit right in. A log cabin would perfect from that line and I’ve always wanted to make one with her fabrics.

Ooo! I would so LOVE to be entered in this giveaway!! We have been doing some “forced” remodeling of our home after a plumbing disaster, but some really good ideas have come out of it. For instance, there is a little niche in my dining room that has been begging for a bench seat or a built in or something for a long time. Well now that we’re in “Go-to-Lowe’s-every-day” mode, why not?! Just the other day I was dreaming about making a new quilt to grace our new bench seat (whenever it finally gets done!). And I think one of these would do the trick: http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/stores_app/Browse_Item_Details.asp?sid=1927413831481927&Store_id=499&page_id=23&Item_ID=27385&Parent_Ids= http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/stores_app/Browse_Item_Details.asp?sid=3555413836493555&Store_id=499&page_id=23&Item_ID=35685&Parent_Ids= …I’m leaning toward the Sweet Sugar Swirls, though. 🙂 Ooo please pick me!!

I’ve not made a Log Cabin in a while and have had an itch to do one. If I win these sweeties, I’ll add some coordinating yardage and cut bigger centers, like about 3″, for the cabins. I’d make the quilt the size that goes on the back of the couch, to pull down for a nap. Recipient yet to be identified!

Oh goodness! I read your blog posts every day but I rarely comment. Had to comment on this one! Hmmmm, I would probably dig out a quilt pattern that used honey buns and use these beauties in it. I’m not sure which quilt but they would be loved and used here! Thanks for the chance!

I would love these so much. I would make a log cabin quilt for my husband. Then from the littlest leftovers, I would make spool blocks for my spool quilt. Thank you for your generosity of heart.

Wow Nicole! They are gorgeous. It is so difficult to decide what I would use them for – but as the fabric is 1 1/2 inches wide I think I would opt for a pineapple quilt – something I’ve wanted to make for a long time. Because the colours would be perfect I would use the quilt in our little apartment in Andermatt, a little town on the St Gotthard pass in southern Switzerland – just a little more than an hour from the Italian border.

If I won these honey buns,I know that somewhere in my pattern/book collection is the perfect quilt for these fabrics. But first I would need to open them up and look at them for a while and let them speak to me….
I really love your blue & white log cabin blocks pictured with your blog title.

I would love to win these and since it is my birthday month what a great present it would be! I think I would make a log cabin – I haven’t made one of those in soooo long. Why is it that we forget about the obvious classics?? And you know I would let you know how it is coming… Thanks and good luck in your new adventures.

I’m actually using one Harmony Honey Bun (that I won from Jan Patek – she was having a contest) for a postage stamp as my current leaders and enders. It’s slow going!
Maybe I’d finally make the Lone Star pattern with those buns. 🙂

What a fantastic opportunity! If I were to win, I would make a churn dash quilt. I love the old-fashioned blocks, and these would be fun to put into a traditional block. Queen size. Hand quilt it. Yep. I have a plan…

I’ve never purchased or owned a honey bun (other then DH). I think strips would be fantastic to play with!! I’m not sure what I’d make if I won them, but I’d share my project online:)

Oooh, commenting away! I would *love* to win those! I need to work on a couch quilt for DH, and he’s partial to log cabins. I’ve never worked with pre-cuts before; I do have one layer cake of civil war repros. I’m thinking of pairing that with a background fabric & making Broken Dishes blocks.

Wow… great giveaway. I’ve used the layer cakes, charm packs and jelly rolls… but not the honey buns or turnovers. Love the precuts on offer these days… no more rotary cutting.. just straight to the sewing machine.
Looks like there would be plenty of honey bun strips for both a tablerunner and a log cabin table cover. Keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be the winner.

Hmm, let me see. I would make either a log cabin or a Fig Tree star quilt with these, probably the log cabin. I have been wanting to make one for a while, and this would definitely move it right up the to do list.

How pretty — and how generous! I would love to win these honey buns. I’ve only used jelly rolls, so it would be fun to play in my EQ program to design a quilt using these. My hubby loves red, white/cream and blues, so I would probably make it with him in mind to lift his spirits up. Blessings!

I buy lots of Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes, Charm Packs & FQ Bundles but I have yet to purchase a Honey Bun. I’d really enjoy receiving these 4 beauties. I have several patterns in mind for these Jelly Rolls but I know there are some wonderful new patterns for Honey Buns that will be released at Spring Market next month. However, a traditional log cabin quilt would be beautiful, too.

Oh, Nicole, you are so sweet. I’m so happy your life is full of blessing these days. So deserved! And thank you for sharing the love (so to speak)! How would I use these? Well, my goodness there are four of ’em so I’d have to not only make myself a new quilt (most like from Carrie’s new Scnibbles book) but also a quilt to gift to someone special for the holidays. Enjoy your week!

There are so many great patterns to choose from on the Moda site. I would probably choose one of those and make the quilt for my sister. Those are “her” colors!

Ahh, more beautiful fabric…if I had this in my hot little hands, I would make the quilt “Sew Scrappy” from “40 Fabulous Quick-Cut Quilts! Another way to use this book, and I could continue to use my scraps along with the “buns”!
Thanks so much for the chance!

I am going to throw my hat in for these beauties, I would probebly make a fabric bowl and coasters using cord, weave some and make place mats, and the remainder would make a fab table runner. I would insist on paying the postage and packing btw.

I enjoy reading your blog everyday, and am very exicted for you on your upcoming house move. I would absolutely love to win those buns, but I don’t have a specific project in mind right now that I would use them for. That’ll give me something to think about today, though. Hope I win!

My 10 & 11 yr old daughters are just learning to quilt. They are enamoured with fat quarters but that involves a rotary cutter (not good!). I would give then each 2 of the honey buns so they can realistically make something they will finish, like a strip quilt or (my new luv) spiderweb blocks. Thanks for your very generous giveaway!

I know how I would use them. I have a quilt in mind and I haven’t bought the fabric yet and I’m starting to plan some sewing for the summer when I’m off of work.
Hope you enjoy this time of anticipation in your life. Change and re-inventing one’s life sounds soul enriching to me.

I’ve never used any precuts, period, so this might be an interesting place to start. I’ve also been taken with some of the Schnibbles patterns that have been appearing a lot on some of the blogs I follow, and would have no problem downsizing them to accommodate the honey bun. What’s a little schnibble called – a schnibblet? Thanks for this great giveaway!

Hi Nicole,
I have made five of Terry Atkinson’s Monterey Medallion quilts, in Christmas colors, red-white-and blue, in golden Fall colors, and one in pinks, honeys, and browns. It’s a quilt that goes together by itself with lots of colors but also different blocks – log cabins, stars, Jacob’s ladder borders. These honey buns would make a honey of a new version with a completely different colorway. My quilter friend usses lots of vines, leaves, and feathers to quilt them. I finished my last M. Medallion for dear friends who came through our 2009 blizzard to visit and receive their quilt. They were thrilled.I would love a reason to make another; it’s my favorite. Thanks for thinking of your quilty friends.
Best wishes,
Stephani
Hi Nicole,
I have made five of Terry Atkinson’s Monterey Medallion quilts, in Christmas colors, red-white-and blue, in golden Fall colors, and one in pinks, honeys, and browns. What a wonderful giveaway! I have never made a log cabin quilt and would love to make one for my DH, so please throw me in the hat too! Well, not me! 😮 I wouldn’t fit! LOL Thanks for the chance! 🙂

So I took my time and thought about what to make. Harmony is an excellent line very much in tune with the warm tones in my home but I can never think about what to do with the 1.5″ strips! So I had to think about it.
I would not do a log cabin although I love the end result. Fig Tree quilts has several honey bun patterns that are just too cute, so that is an option (love the petite fleurs pattern), but then I thought nine patches and irish chains. Something more Civil War, more prim/old school. I’m thinking something like and adaptation of Miss Rosie’s Loose Change, Charlie Brown or maybe the Wayne & Gordie pattern. Fig Tree has one called Daisy Chains that is a twist of the traditional Iris Chain.
In truth, anything that can be done with Jelly rolls can be incorporated to use Honey Buns but the blocks will be much smaller. Whatever pattern is chosen, with 4 honey buns you will have plenty to bring out the design all the way to the border.
Thanks for giving me something to think about!

I love your idea Nicole of using them for a great log cabin quilt by adding some cream color fabric. Thanks for sharing your sewing happiness.

Yes, please, enter me in this drawing. Honey Bun(ches) of Oats. Hmmm…how would I use thee, let me count the ways. Log Cabin is a good idea then I wouldn’t have to do any deciding on what fabrics to do. Something from Heather Mulder Peterson (Anka’s Treasures) would be nice too. So there you have it. Undecided but they will get used, for sure.
Thanks.

I want to enter! How specific do we have to be about what we’ll do with them? I like your Log Cabin idea and might just go with that. I have never made a full Log Cabin quilt before. Lame, I know.
And I’m really glad so many things are happy in your life that you are bubbling over with joy. 🙂

Nice buns Nicole! And wow, what a nice giveaway! Please count me in for the drawing. I have a Fig Tree pattern that calls for honey buns… imagine that!

Oh, I am so torn! I have heard so many woes about working with these little strips, but on the other hand, Harmony is one of my favorite lines! If I were the lucky winner, I would make little itty bitty 9-patches, set on point with the tan fabric from this line. I would probably cuss while I was doing all those little squares, but boy, it would sure be cute when it was done! I’m a sucker for tiny 9-patches.

Hi Nicole:
Hmmm. . .1 1/2″ you say? I’m thinking Rail Fence table runners — I use them as dresser scarves.
Or, perhaps one table runner & a big tote bag for our camping trips (DH is getting a little tired of me using plastic bags for everything!) he he he
I’m glad to hear that Ozzie & Sophie had a good reunion (at least for one blog post)!

Hi Nicole! I just gave my sister an entire 12 month long BOM- it is way better feeling to give! Having said that I love Jan’s material and it is very generous of you to give some away! I like your log cabin idea- I have made a fair few log cabin blocks but they’ve been in samplers so I’ve never made a full log cabin quilt! I have a pinapple quilt to make and a log cabin would be just wonderful too!Good luck with your move! Thanks!

Oh, this is fun! I think I would try a table runner with the honey buns and then use some solid fabric to make napkins and bind them with some of the honey buns as well. I’m into tablescaping these days so this is where my mind turns to! Thanks so much for sharing!

I live in a small town in British Columbia and we have the absolutely best library in the world. Our dear librarian is retiring next spring and as I member of the library board, I have volunteered to make her a log cabin quilt as a retirement gift because she is a wonderful person and lives in a log cabin!. A honey bun would be a great addition to her quilt. Love your blog and wish you all the best in your new adventures. Marilyn

Log Cabin is my favorite old fashioned block and a perfect choice for those strips! I’d use the reds for the centers set them in a lightning streak layout. The colors would be perfect for my house and there is always a need for another couch quilt. Leftovers would probably go into a cross quilt as I have become enamored of those of late!

One of my first quilts was a log cabin, and because I was a new quilter, I took a class where we recieved all the fabrics pre-cut! That was about 25 years ago… Would love to win this fabric! Thanks~

You are sweet to think of us in the midst of all your house fixing and packing. Log Cabins and all the variations are my favorite blocks so that’s exactly where I would start with these beautiful honey buns. I loved reading all the comments. Quilters are so clever.

Mmmmm, there are so many great patterns out for Honey Buns, it’s so hard to choose. I think I would have to let them sit awhile until they “spoke to me”….you know how it is with some fabric….

Love those honey buns! Both kinds! I would make a lap quilt for our quilt group that gives people quilts that need a hug from God.

Hi Nicole – OOOOOHHHHH, I LOVE those buns!! You are so sweet for offering them up. As for a pattern, I actually have two in mind – first, I’ve been itching to make a pineapple quilt FOREVER and these would be just perfect. Second, I just this morning saw a picture of a cool quilt and found the pattern on Temecula Quilt Co’s website – it’s called Remember When by Connie Cunningham. I’m sure I could adapt it to use these luscious honey buns!!

These would be the perfect colors to make a quilt for my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. I think the French Kiss pattern from Fig Tree & Co. would be the perfect pattern for them.

I LOVE the Harmony line of fabrics! I have a layer cake here right now, waiting to be assembled into a quilt for a good friend of mine. I was hoping for a few leftover scraps so I could have something for me, but boy, your generous giveaway would be even better!

I would use them to make a courthouse steps version of log cabin..(in honor of my jury duty when the elevator on the ninth floor went out and we had to go down, down, down on the courthouse steps) This would certainly wipe out my PTS of jury duty.

I hardly use a pattern making it up as I go, so i am not sure at the moment or names of many patterns. but the wheels are spinning in my head now for ideas

Beautiful fabric + a beautiful give-a-way.
I’m thinking these would make a fantastic applique project–some folky floral designs set against pieced backgrounds using one inch squares.

What a great giveaway! If I were to win I think I’d make either a half log cabin or a string quilt. Even though the strings would be all the same size I think a string quilt would still look awesome with these fabrics.

What better fabric to use for a wedding gift quilt than Harmony? The colors are very traditional, but have enough sparkle to appeal to a more modern couple. The daughter of our Best Man is getting married in late August, so I want to create a cozy quilt for the newly weds. I was thinking of a log cabin, but I really like the idea of a postage stamp quilt — lots of little pieces put together to make a a crazy patchwork. Wouldn’t that be a great metaphor for a good marriage?

Hi,
I am a big believer in paying it forward, so if I were to win the fabric I would use most of it to make quilts for Victoria’s quilts, which is a great organization making quilts for chemo patients. I am part of 2 quilt groups, one is a large guild and the other one is a small group of ladies who make up a group called uprivergirls and one of our objectives is to make quilt tops for this charity. We are lucky to have help from Marcia in NH… WINNIPESAUKEE QUILT COMPANY…who sends us scraps and remnants.
There are very talented girls in our group, now if only we could agree on a pattern….thanks for the opportunity.

I think your log cabin idea is the perfect use for them. I am hoping to finish a log cabin quilt this summer that has over 380 4″ blocks – I suspect these would assemble quite a bit faster!

Thanks!

I’ve been wanting to make the ‘off-the-grid’ pattern on Moda Bake Shop since I saw it. This would be great for 1 honeybun, and I would still have plenty leftover to make a log cabin quilt. (Crossing fingers)

I have never commented before on a blog – Wow I feel special already. I LOVE Jan Patek and her colors. This was one of my favorite lines – oh the colors. I would have to make two quilts. One would be the Braid from Fig Tree and the other would be from Pine Needles where she sewed two honeybun strips together and cut triangles and put together so there was a light, dark, light, dark alternating each angle. So cute. And then she added a scrappy pieced border. These fabrics would make up so nice. I would have to pull some all nighters just at the excitement of completing and then being able to tell my husband I did not spend any money – I always get in trouble for that.

I would use them to make a quilt for our new GC due this summer. She is a miracle baby for our DD#2.
I would also make as many charity quilts to donate to Gabriel Project as possible.
Thanks for this opportunity.

Hi Nicole, I’ll be more than happy to help lighten your moving load and I sure hope that number 122 is the lucky!!!I would simply love to get my hands on those honey buns – perhaps those sweet fabrics would help cure me of that other sweet addiction I seem to be suffering from these days since I’d much too busy to do anything else. Thanks as always for your generosity.

A fabulous giveaway! It would be fun to do a rail-fence or a 25-patch with alternating blocks quilt. Or maybe I’d have to buy a new book or pattern especially for honey buns…Maybe there should be a warning on giveaways: Caution: winning this giveaways could cause unexpected UFOs!

I think I would make either a table runner or a quilt. I would have to see them in front of me first to say for sure. Thanks for the giveaway!

Wow! What a great giveaway but also a lot of pressure to decide right away what I’d make. Four honey buns is quite a lot so I imagine there would be at least 2 quilts in there. one of them would definitely be a log cabin quilt for my mom. The log cabin block is her favorite and these colors match her house. And then perhaps a pineapple quilt? I would have to go looking through patterns to use up the rest.

I’m thinking about a pineapple quilt. I bought a new ruler that makes them easier…we’ll see. lol

I have a big birthday very soon, one of those with a “0” on the end, ouch! What a gift it would be to receive something like this – I’m thinking they could be a Double Irish Chain, but it’s so hard to be sure without actually seeing it. Thank you.

Love the buns! With this many entries my chances of winning are slim, but I’m hoping I get lucky! I’m not exactly sure what pattern I’d pick to make… but maybe a spiderweb or a square in a square design…the possiblities are endless. Thanks for the chance.

Hi there
I am a first time commenter…a give away is always a good incentive. I love your blog and read it daily with my breakfast…I am in New Zealand so it is such a treat to see what you are up to.
Now as far as those buns are concerned…..mmmmm ….. I am thinking about a bag or maybe a cover for my sewing machine….

What pretty fabrics and what a generous offer. At first glance, I think they would look great in one of Bonnie Hunter’s (quiltville.com) patterns. The pineapple blossom and weed wacker patterns are the first ones to come to mind. I don’t know how many quilts those honey buns could make, but hopefully a couple or more cuddle quilts for my guild’s Linus quilt donation and maybe a table runner or something small to keep.

Pick me….please!!!! I know exactly what I would do with these lovely “honey buns” – a quilt for my wonderful Mom. My mother recently had to leave her home and go into assisted living …she had broken her hip last year and can no longer take care of a home by herself…it is a hard time for her and a quilt would be just the thing to add the sparkle to her new home and a reminder of how much I love her!

Oh what a lucky person this will be. I would use them to make a Pineapple quilt top have it quilted and then send to My QOV group. That is a great color combo that would work well with this. And the Honey Buns are just super to use in this pattern. Good Luck everyone.

Hi Nicole,
Just came to catch up on your blog a bit. I’ve been under the weather so to speak.
What exciting things you have happening in your life!! I had wondered if perhaps you were getting your house ready for sale. I sincerely hope all goes well in that regard!
Your quilt work is beautiful as usual and what a fun treat to have a quilt of your very own in a published book!! How very exciting! I can relate to the cold sore issue. I just finished my 5th round in as many weeks around my nose area. My physician gave me an oral mediaction to try at the very first indication of a break out (which after 50 some years I recognize in a minute.) The medication actually halted and held back the usual time frame of the virus running its course. Very exciting to have some help in that area. Let me know if you are interested in knowing more.
Take care of yourself,
Beverly in WA
Oh, and the fabric give away looks very sweet. Off hand I thought your idea of a log cabin pattern sounded great—I think perhaps if I were so fortunate as to win the prize I would try to find a nice log cabin pattern. Thanks for this opportunity!!

I think I would do something with log cabin blocks–have wanted to make them for a really long time now and those fabrics would be perfect for that–then I would have no more excuses—thanks for the chance to win them–
Hugs, Di

The honeybuns need to come to Iowa. I have a quilt to make for a friend newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Share the talent, share the wealth. Can you believe how many people read your blog..
Waiting for beach cottage. It’s getting close to summer.
Thanks.

OH my goodness Nicole, what are you thinking giving away these treats!?!? Most of the fun for me is to plan and dream about what to make, and I would for sure document the process on my blog!
Alas, my chances look to be about 1 in over 200, so if I win, I will run out and buy a lottery ticket also 🙂

Four honey buns? Really? It’s too much – but I think I can handle it. I could do with a little Harmony in my life right now. There is a super quilt project in the latest issue of Australian Homespun magazine using honey buns and spider web blocks. Thank you for the opportunity to enter. Ann 🙂

I am loving the Thimbleblossom pattern Pint Size using the honeybuns. This would be beautiful, and with 4 I could turn this baby quilt into a queen!
Love your blog and all your great projects you post. So inspiring!

So happy for you that there is much to celebrate in your life right now. Looking forward to seeing what you all get done once you no longer have to work. I have a feeling you have some big plans brewing with the possible purchase of a longarm machine. What a great giveaway! I’m not sure what I would do with them just yet, but what fun it would be to come up with an idea. Thanks for the chance.

What a wonderful giveaway. I would love to play with these honey buns. I remember seeing a pattern I believe by Country Threads that was a small quilt made of log cabins and tiny baskets. It just seems perfect for blessings. Please pick me. Thank you, Karen M

I love those colors! I think I would make a string quilt — maybe a spiderweb with all those yummy honeybuns. Gosh, I could probably make one big enough for my bed with those!

I love the idea of a log cabin but I have to admit I’d be tempted to sew several strips together and then subcut into 1.5″ segments and rejoin to create a scrapoLISHIOUS postage stamp looking quilt! One that would be so pretty with coordinating fabrics!!!
You are soooo generous – someone is gonna get sooo lucky! 😉 Thanks for the chance! Love from Texas! ~bonnie
PS – congrats for being included in the the Schnibbles II book! 😉
