At the rate I have been finishing projects lately, I will probably get to these in 2016, but I did have to buy them. Crows and Pumpkins from Primitive Gatherings, just because it is so darn cute and so Fall. Abigail in Paris, which is a Heartspun Quilts pattern, designed by Pam Buda. This quilt was taught at a class at The Buggy Barn this summer I believe. I love the star blocks, the cake stand blocks, and the quarter square triangles in the border. Last (but probably first!), I must make Wild Air by Miss Rosie's Quilt Company, designed by Carrie Nelson.
Thelma recently finished Wild Air, which uses a gazillion flying geese in the blocks and border. The funny thing is, about two years ago we were traveling together and both bought the same fabric at Life's A Stitch quilt shop in Janesville, Wisconsin. We weren't sure what we might make with it, but we both fell in love with the border fabric and the green toile. The green background fabric is Covey Toile for Andover Fabrics, and the red floral print fabric is Annandale by Jo Morton for Andover Fabrics.
Thelma ended up using her fabric to make Wild Air, and I am thinking that if a creative genius says to do something a certain way, who am I to argue?
My geese will be scrappy, as hers are, and I will raid my stash and add in some new fabrics to the mix, so my quilt will not be an exact dupe of hers. Close enough that a man going by on a bus might not be able to tell the difference. Hope she doesn't mind…
How do you feel if someone wants to make the same quilt as you? Are you flattered, or is it annoying? Or does it depend on who that someone is?

I would be flattered and love when people want to do the same thing or variations of it…..but I am usually the one doing what others have started!

I would be flattered but none of my close quilting friends have the same ideas about colour that I have, maybe less traditional. I am more likely to be drawn to patterns I see here on the internet where I would be influenced by one of my virtual friends.

Love all three patterns. I would be fine with someone “copying me”. I do love looking at everyone’s quilts and getting ideas. have a good one!

Oh Nicole! I was just bemoaning on my blog yesterday how I have so many patterns already that I love and want to make, but probably won’t get to make most of them and here you are today, tempting me more! I know it isn’t your fault, of course, it is those wonderful designers, Haha. Thanks for the temptation! I think I may have to get Abigail in Paris.

I’m flattered when someone wants to make the same quilt I made. It’s not like we’re going to a party in the same dress, though I don’t mind that either.
I can’t resist a pattern either and have enough to take me into 2020.

Love the patterns and your glorious fabrics for Wild Birds! Applause for the pattern designers!
I am perfectly okay with anyone who would like to make a quilt like mine. Since my stash covers about 20 years of buying and since I love scrappy quilts, it’s highly improbable that a duplicate of any of my quilts could be created without a lot of bother. This doesn’t address the fact that I don’t make stellar quilts worthy of copying! 🙂
Speaking of making a similar quilt, I plan to make one similar to your red/white/cream Snowball 9 Patch that’s in your archives. I LOVE that quilt! Oh, and Toulouse, and … !
Hugs!

I have Pam Buda’s pattern, soon to be started….I hope!! I am never offended when another quilter wants to do the same thing I have done and I hope others feel the same way when I “copy” their work. I, also, have too many patterns!!

Flattered… no doubt! Being inspired by others work is such a big part of quilting. Great new patterns!

I would be flattered. But I guess that is because sometimes I like to make a quilt I’ve seen someone else make 🙂 But like you, I have enough patterns to last me into the next century!

Echoing what the others have said, “Imitation is the highest form of flattery!” I don’t know if anyone has actually copied one of my quilts, but I hope someone would be inspired by my work! In turn, I also like to see what people are making that may give me an idea!

When you go shopping and you find a fabric you love, how much do you buy? I’m always stumped and worry I won’t buy enough for what I might want to use it for someday, or I will buy too much and it will be in my stash for 20 years. I know I worry too much, but I still don’t know how much to buy.
I bought 3 yards of that same red Jo Morton and love it. I hope that is enough!!

Great pattern lineup. I have Wild Air and it has moved it’s way up the list. Hopefully I can get to it soon. I have also FINALLY managed to purchase the Buggy Barn book with the Sunflower quilt. I won’t be home for another 3 weeks or so, but hopefully I can sew along with you gals. I have loads of reds, not sure about my browns(they may need topping up), golds are in pretty good shape, and I still haven’t figured out a background but I am definitely closer to starting than I was last week.

Lol, after a second look at my pattern, I realize I don’t need another colour. I am closer than I thought! Lol

I have had my eye on Abigail’s Pins also. I don’t mind if someone copies me. How flattering. I buy a lot of kits, so I’m copying someone else. 🙂

Well I hope you are flattered because there are several of the quilts you’ve made that I want to make in the same colourway!

I almost always copy because what I have in my mind just doesn’t come out right and then I get too frustrated trying to make it all work. I love kits! I do copy and wouldn’t mind if somewhat copied mine. I dearly love the Abigail’s Pins and I already have that Jo red fabric marked for another quilt but hey, I can always take my kit apart!

I love the crows and pumpkin quilt pattern you display but I could not find it at the primitive gatherings shop. Is there another source you may know of?

lol, for me, it’s more fun when more of us are making the same quilt. we usually pick different fabric(but not always). that makes it more fun to see the same quilt in different fabric. ;p

I’ve never had to worry about anyone making the same quilt as me LOL! I don’t think it would bother me…guess I would consider it a compliment, especially if it was you!
I’m looking forward to your version Nicole.

I think I would be flattered if someone wanted to make the same quilt using the same or similar fabrics. I guess I would take that to mean I had pretty good taste! Looking forward to seeing your Wild Air quilt.

It depends….can I leave it at that? Lol

Doesn’t bother me at all to have someone make the same quilt. Somehow they’re never exactly the same.

Love your patterns, I may have to get Wild Air too as I’ve been wanting it ever since swing Thelma’s. I would be flattered if someone copied me, I love it when someone loves the pattern or fabric I’m working with. I usually do the copying though 🙂

I would be flattered if someone copied a quilt of mine. I don’t know anyone who would, but I’d be flattered! That being said, I copied a quilt I saw on someone’s blog this year. I just fell in love with the colors they used and I bought the same fabric and made the exact same quilt. Well, maybe not exactly since there was no pattern. I just made it up from what I saw on her blog. And I have been afraid to send her a picture of mine and tell her that I copied her quilt – because I’m not sure if she’d be flattered or annoyed.

I fell in love with a quilt on Flickr and wanted it so much that I printed out the pictures and make templates from that. I never felt good about it though, so when it showed up as part of a book, I felt obligated to purchase the book and ease my conscious. I copied the style of the fabrics in it too.
In my defense, it’s an utterly adorable quilt!

Flattered! But possibly that may depend on the person. No, generally I’m only too happy to help people who want my advice or guidance on a quilt project. Do you and Thelma see each other often? Or are you more acquaintance friends? You may enjoy seeing each other’s quilts in your homes and swap some times for a slight change!
