Squishy Package

IMG_2475

I did receive a squishy package in the mail this  week.  I had to order more black fabric for the Log Cabin quilt I am making for Sara.  I like the Zen Chic Modern Backgrounds in Ink.  Turns out I also thought I needed more of the grays in that collection, so those should arrive next week.  Told you that you would need way more fabric than you thought for a Log Cabin quilt…

I also ordered the All In A Row book Moda put out after the latest Spring Market.  Many of the designers at Moda did a Miss American type parade wearing a sash consisting of a "row" segment that could be used in a row style quilt.  A row style quilt is one that has different rows made up of the same blocks.  It could be a row of House blocks, a row of appliquéd dresses on a clothes line, a row of flowers, a row of pinwheels, etc etc.  Each Moda designer created a "row" and Martingale put it all in a book, complete with directions and examples on how to do it.  There are so many ideas in that book: you should check it out.  You can watch the Moda School House YouTube beauty parade, which is pretty fun:

I especially love one of the featured row quilts that was done in greens, blacks, cream and oranges.  The person who made it chose beautiful fabrics, but also rows that were more Fall like in style–appliqued pumpkins, basket blocks, etc.  See, how cute is that?

All in a row

It is giving me ideas, I have to tell you… I don't care for it when things are a bit too random.  I like the symmetry of this quilt  The rows are repeated on each side of the center appliquéd row.

I have a few new patterns I purchased as well.  A couple of Miss Rosies, and a Laundry Basket.  I will talk about those in a future post.  Now I am packing my things for a mini quilt retreat at my dad's house for the next four days.  I plan to make the  most of my time while I hang out with him.  I will keep you posted!

  1. What charming row quilts and I especially like how the rows in the autumn quilt (last photo) seem to relate to each other nicely. IMHO, in so many row quilts the rows seem totally dissimilar and even awkward. Not so with this lovely quilt and even the Flying Geese border says Autumn!
I hope your sweetie is coping well. Prayers continue for all who loved Grandpa Larry.
Give your Dad a hug from me and have a wonderful mini-retreat yourself.
    Hugs!

  4. I like the symmetry of the row quilt in the photo too. It is making me more interested in this concept. I could make a wall hanging out of fabric I have on hand. Sew along?

  7. Fun mail! And the row quilts are all so interesting. Melissa Corry from Happy Quilting made the fall version you show here. I agree with you about the symmetry. Her quilt is gorgeous for a lot of reasons 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you choose to do for yours. I love so many of the rows that were designed. Have a sweet time with your Dad 🙂

  13. I love the Moda book is so great by far the best quilty book in a long time:-)
The Vilage pattern is great, too, but since I have the Full House pattern and Carrie’s House Row in the book I didn’t buy this pattern but will make something mixing the other two patterns … it should work I think (at least I hope).
Have a great time at your quilty retreat!
