Sixteen years ago, on February 12, 2007, I published my first blog post. I've been posting pretty consistently ever since then, with a few vacation or mental health breaks. It has been a wonderful experience and a very fun ride for me. In my first post, I said one of my goals was to get better acquainted with my readers and I have definitely done that. Mission accomplished. If it wasn't for the great conversations we have had with one another over the years I doubt very much that I would have persisted so long writing Sister's Choice Quilts. There is no way I can adequately thank all of you for making this such a great experience, but I decided to do a little giveaway just for the heck of it. Please comment on how or when you got to know me and I will announce two winners on Monday, February 13.
In other news, I have become obsessed, and I do mean *Obsessed* with making more blocks for the Star-Studded Event quilt. I've made more light blue blocks, more sage green blocks, more red and blue blocks….Dozens more blocks. I can't even fit them all on the design wall. It will end up being 14 rows by 14 rows, about 84" square.
The pink had to go in the end. It just didn't work for me. It did make me realize that I wanted more lighter-toned blocks in the mix though, hence the scramble to make more and more. The arrangement isn't final yet, but by gosh, it will be by the time the weekend is over. And this quilt will be as big as a circus tent when I'm finished.
Do check back in Monday for my finish and to see who the two giveaway winners are! Happy weekend and if you are a football fan, may your team win.

Congratulations! The quilt looks great! I don’t remember how I found your blog but I so appreciate the inspiration.

Gosh, I don’t remember how I happened to find your blog. It was probably a link from another quilt blog – very likely Cupcakes n Daisies, quite awhile ago. But I continued reading it because you inspire me, because I have learned a lot from you – techniques, products – and because you don’t have advertising on your site. I understand that for some people, their blogs are part of their livelihood, therefore they monetize them to the hilt, but I really appreciate your concentration on quilting, family life and books. That’s what sings to me, too.
Thanks for your blog. Reading it is definitely something I look forward to, and enjoy so much. And I love, love, love, seeing the quilts you create. Happy almost Spring!

I too am not sure when I discovered your blog, my guess is about 14 years ago. I have always enjoyed it, not only the quilting but all the other activities in your life. I can relate to so much of it, love your book recommendations, involvement with your granddaughter and the care you took with your father. Your writing style is super and fun to read. I appreciate you being so consistent with your blogging and I look forward to it every morning! Thank you.

I started following you back in your early years; and believe it or not, I check each day to see if there is a new post! I’ve loved your quilts, but the book reviews and recipe links are always very good. I even put a small notebook in my purse where I list books you’ve recommended and that I’d like to check out at my local library.
Honestly, I hope you continue to blog for years to come!

The quilt looks great even though I was one of the ones who thought the pink was ok……I have been reading your blog for many years- since I found the Feedlyapp, maybe about 2012?.? Wow, that’s a long time! Congratulations and thanks for sharing!

14 years is a long time!! I love your quilts and your books and thanks so much for sharing both with us! When I first heard of quilt blogs, I googled them and Thelma’s “Cupcakes and Daisies” was the first result and I learned of you through her blog list. I loved both of your blogs and watching what you’ve made over the years. Even though I really liked the pink blocks, you’re right to follow your own instincts. Have a wonderful day, Nicole!!

I think I have been reading since the baby granddaughter days. Many blogs at that time and now yours is the only blog I check daily. I like the variety of topics you cover and that you don’t dabble in controversial matters.

Happy Blogiversary! I think I must have found you shortly after you started posting but it doesn’t seem that long. I do like the way you have lightened up the quilt with the new blocks and look forward to seeing the final finish.

Congratulations on your blog anniversary! And a BIG THANK YOU for all the conversations, information and inspiration. I have been reading your blog for a long time — don’t even know how long. And I don’t always comment. But I can tell you that ever since I found your blog, it is the first one I go to when I sit down at the computer each morning. You always have something interesting to say. Thoughtful questions. Quilting insight. Life in all its joy and sorrow, everydayness and humour. All the things you share. Great show and tell!! I so appreciate the time you put into your blog posts, and your dedication over the years. And all the advice on things quilting and otherwise. So congratulations and thank you!!

I have been quilting since the 1990 and when I retired from my nursing career of 46 years I had time to search and found you as an online quilting friend I needed.I so love reading and keeping up in the quilting world. Thank you.

I am unsure how many years I’ve followed your blog. 5? 7? I enjoy seeing your projects, reading what your decisions are, and seeing outcomes. Book reviews are read and titles noted. Recipes tried and shared. It’s been an educational, varied, and always interesting blog to follow! Thank you!

I retired December 3, 2003. I have followed your blog from the beginning. I even have your blog anniversary as an yearly event on calendar. There were so many Ozzie adventures with shoes and iron cords. I think our mothers were roughly the same age.
Congratulations and keep on blogging. Hugs.

I remember how I found your blog, but don’t remember exactly when it was. I had gotten a bundle of fabrics called Morris Garden and didn’t know what I wanted to do with them, so I did a google search and your Kitchen Sink quilt from Kim Brackett’s book came up. I’ve been enjoying your blog ever since then. It’s the first or second one I read every morning. I share your tastes in quilt styles and colors as well as home decor, and appreciate all the help and inspiration you have given me.

I don’t remember when I found your blog. While I was surfing the net for quilting blogs and yours came up. Your blog name intrigued me, “Sisters Choice” because I am one of seven sisters. So, I have been checking in on you since. Thank you for inspiring my life in countless ways. Thank you

Congratulations Nicole! Keeping up a blog for this long is a lot of hard work. I have been following your blog for what seems like forever. My earliest recollection is just before you got Ozzie. I loved all his puppy shenanigans. I remember the days of watching you and Lisa go to retreats and meeting Carrie. I love how you are not afraid to open up and be real. I love your book reviews, recipes, how to use tools, and the love you have for your family. In my opinion you have the best blog and I love it all! Thank you for sharing your life with all of us and keep on sewing!

Congrats on 16 years! I’m pretty sure I “met” you through your sister, Kate. We worked at Crate and Barrel together in the 2000’s. I love your blog and I’m constantly amazed at your precise and tiny piecing! Thank you !

Your blog is one I look forward to reading ! I enjoy seeing all your beautiful quilt projects and am impressed by how much you get done! Your quilt choices and color selection are similar to what I like. I accidentally found your blog and am so glad I did. I also love to read and enjoy your book reviews. Over the years I’ve read many of your selections.

Happy Sweet 16! I’m not sure how I found your blog, but you’ve become one of the few blogs that I check frequently (dare I say almost daily). My color and taste in quilts are similar to yours so I look forward to seeing your projects. And we have similar tastes in reading matters, so I love your book reveiws. There are very few books that you’ve recommended that I haven’t enjoyed or vice versa.
I know some “bloggers” are turning to different formats/platforms… but please don’t! I enjoy your 16 year old blog very much 🙂

I found your blog sometime after retirement in 2016. Probably via link, but possibly through a search? The “sister’s choice block” is a favorite, so maybe that was a factor? I DO know I’ve purchased some lovely products based on your recommendations; a particular favorite is the Daylight swing arm light. Congratulations on 16 years! And many, many thanks for inviting into your world!

I think I found you through another blogger but now I follow regularly. It’s probably been three years or so since I found you.
You definitely do some great projects and your baking with Eva always looks fun!

I started reading your blog before I retired. I love seeing your quilts, and how organized you are in your sewing blocks together.I really love your book reviews, I have never been a consistent reader but every time you have your blog review of the books you have read I find at least 2 to get me going again. Happy sewing and reading

I found you maybe 10 years ago and I think it was through Cottons ‘in Wool blog. I especially enjoy all of your tutorials on various blocks and the tools used. You don’t ever seem to be intimidated by the complexity of a pattern! Congrats on your 16 years of inspiration, advice and beautiful quilts.

I don’t know how I found you! But I know it was your book recommendations/reviews that really drew me in at first – along with, of course, the quilting. I read very, very few blogs, and yours is the one that I NEVER delete until I’ve had a chance to read it. Thank you for continuing to blog 🙂

I think I’ve been following you since your very early days. Can’t say how I found you though. Probably one of those trips down the rabbit hole of the internet! Congrats on the anniversary and please keep up the posting. Love seeing what you’re working on and love reading your book reviews!

Congratulations! 16 years is quite the accomplishment. I don’t remember exactly when I found your blog but I’ve been following it for a while. One of the things I really like about your blog is that it’s like having a conversation with you. You’re showing us what’s going on in your quilting life and sometimes you’re showing us what’s going on in the rest of your life. It’s so refreshing to have someone be so real and authentic. I look forward to reading your blog every morning. Thank you for sharing a part of your life with us.

I have loved your blog probably from close to the beginning, and found it based on our mutual love for Miss Rosie’s quilt patterns. It has led to some fun adventures and a treasured friendship. Please let another of your wonderful readers win the prizes, I have enough stash to last a lifetime! Please continue to post as you are able. I LOVE the changes you have made to your star quilt.

I don’t remember…honestly, I don’t. I’ve followed you for years and love your beautiful quilts.
I absolutely hate reproduction fabric until I see you make something beautiful and then I’m in love.
so you’re making more tiny stars? crazy but stunning.

Wishing you a very happy blogiversary! I’m not sure when I started reading & commenting, but it was before Eva was born. I think I was looking for a tutorial –maybe binding? I enjoy following your quilting-related product reviews, quilting technique tips, recipe & book reviews & relatable everyday happenings. Your writing style is easy to read & interesting which I suspect is part of what keeps your readers coming back & commenting. Thanks for sharing with us all these years & cheers to many more to come! ❤️🥂🎉

I think I’ve been following you since I’ve known there were blogs. I have been with you pretty close since the beginning. You haven’t posted an old quilt yet that I don’t remember reading about as it progressed. Since long before Eva! I’ve enjoyed every blog. Thanks for keeping it up.

Haven’t been on your blog long. Near the end of caring for your dad. Found you from another blog.
I am not a pink person either. Just for charity quilts or baby girl quilts.

Simply awesome Nicole. I’ve enjoyed how you invited us into your life and shared books, family and quilts. I prayed with you for your dad, as I misss my dad so much. I found you through Schnibbles in 2014. I’ve enjoyed you ever since. I enjoy that you keep it real with quilting triumphs as well as struggles. Thanks for taking the time to do book reviews.

Hello, Nicole. Congratulations for writing your blog so long. Like many before me, I cannot remember how I found your blog. Reading your postings has become a morning habit and I’ve learned so much from following you.

I have been reading your blog way over 10 years. I always look forward to see what you are working on, cooking or reading. I don’t really want to win anything as I am on overland and will never live long enough to use what I have haha. Congratulations on 16 years of blogging.

Tracey H told me about your blog when you first started. Most of the bloggers I started following at the same time have now quit doing it or it has just become a selling platform. Yours is the first one I look for every morning and am really glad you have continued to post. It’s always interesting and you are so real and unpretentious. I hope you continue for a long time.

Congratulations on your anniversary! Yours was one of the first blogs I followed, first by just checking every day about 10 years ago. You have never failed to make me feel better as a quilter as I have enjoyed your many successes. Thank you!

Wow 16 years is quite an accomplishment! I started blogging in 2009. You were one of my first followers, and ever since then I have been following you. I so enjoyed your adventures with your sweet dogs. Love all your posts and the creative way you used fabric. Congratulations!

I’ve been following your blog for so long that I don’t remember how or when I started, but I’m sure it’s over 10 years. I used to have a blog, too, so I think it was during that time. I especially love your book reviews. After you post one, I immediately go to my Libby site and put holds on nearly all the ones you recommend. Your list usually lasts me until the next time you post one, since I have to wait awhile on the library, but that’s ok. I really appreiate your ratings, because we have the same taste in books and you’ve never steered me wrong! Happy Blogiversary and many more!

I found you through Carrie Nelson’s blog, when you were doing the monthly Schnibbles, and went back to post #1 and read them all, and have read every one since. 😊 Congratulations on your anniversary, and keep sharing! It’s encouraging and inspiring!

Congratulations Nicole! I think I started following you in early 2010, shortly after the quilting bug bit me. Probably found yours and Thelma’s blog at the same time and read them both religiously ever since. SO much inspiration and creativity is sparked by your blog in all things quilting, cooking/baking, decorating, and book reading. 🙂 I’ve enjoyed your stories of Ozzie, Eva, your son and daughter, extended families, and your trips to Ireland!

I’ve been following you since Eva was a toddler. Pretty sure I found you via Thelma at Cupcakes ‘n Daisies. I love every aspect of your blog — the quilting, of course, but also your baking adventures with Eva and recipe recommendations, book reviews, family milestones (some so poignant they bring me to tears), even your wardrobe and makeup evals. You are the complete package, and you bring this fabric lover and quilter much joy.

I don’t know when I first started reading your blog, but I think it’s been at least seven years. Since then I have went back and read most of your posts since you started. I spent the months we were in lock down in 2020, reading old quilting posts on various blogs. I enjoy reading your blog and enjoy seeing what you are quilting.

I too have been reading your blog for a very long time! Stumbled across it somehow. A lot of other blogs have come & gone, so I’m glad yours still endures. I always enjoy your book reviews too!

I remember discovering your blog via “CupcakesnDaisies” years ago, and as soon as I saw your “Stargazer I” quilt top, I tracked down the pattern and began collecting turquoise and coral fabrics to make one. I’d LOVE to win the layer cake of Sweetwater’s Authentic fabric. I didn’t discover Sweetwater until a couple years after that line came out, and have never been able to find any Authentic. THANKS for sharing so much of your personal life on your blog! Ruth in VA

I was worried when I read your opening lines thinking you were going to announce your retirement!! Your blog is such a self satisfying little nugget that makes my day. I think it was 2010 when I discovered you! Congratulations on 16 years and more importantly thank you for continuing to delight your audience!

Happy anniversary! In those early days I was searching the net for information about quilting, which I found to be very intriguing, to tear perfectly good fabric in pieces, only to make mosaic-like new patterns out of it. I fell in love with the little tidbits you offered about family life, readings, and those three humbugs, Ozzie, Sophie and little Remy. I cried at your dad`s passing, having lost my mum earlier. Please don`t stop with your blogging! I check it every night from here, Romania. You have a friend in me!

I’ve been following you for a number of years. Don’t remember how long but I’m not sure if you were even a grandmother yet! We have similar tastes in fabric and quilts. When I started reading I was afraid you were hanging up your blog writing! Keep on writing… gives me inspiration to work on my stash! I have been making lap quilts, basically baby blanket size, for a local assisted care facility. The residents are always cold and they are small so they can have them and still maneuver their wheelchairs. I’d like to say it’s made a dent in my stash but not really!

Congratulations on 16 years of blogging. I’ve been following you for about 15 years and have enjoyed your book recommendations and quilting projects. Thanks to your inspiration I’ve made many Zippy Strippy bags and taught the class at my local quilt shop many times.

Happy Anniversary! And I selfishly wish you many more! So many blogs have gone dormant it’s so sad… So please keep inspiring and motivating me to get to my machine and get busy. 😊😉I found you through Carrie Nelson when you were doing the monthly Schnibbles. I came to see the “parade” and went back to post #1 and read from the beginning.

I cannot remember how I found your blog but I have been reading it for years. You have always been inspiring whether it is with your sewing, cooking, caring for your family and reading! I look forward to every single post and hope they will continue to come!

Wow! 16 years is a long time and you’ve been posting so faithfully over the years. Thank you for that.
A friend of mine recommended your blog to me many years ago and I’ve enjoyed reading your posts just about every day since then. I did have a hiatus of blog reading over the last year or two due to some family issues, but I’ve always enjoyed your humor and your inspiration. Wishing you 16 more years!

Congratulations! I don’t remember exactly when I started reading your blog, but I know that I added it to my Favorite Blogs List/Tab on my blog back in 2010 after seeing some of the projects you made from the Scrap-Basket Surprises book. I loved that book and made many projects from it. Speaking of books, I have been a long time follower of your book reviews too and use it frequently to order books from the library. 🙂 Thanks for providing me with inspiration and book suggestions.

I am way behind in my blog reading but just have to say how much I’ve enjoyed yours over the years. I don’t recall how I found you but I would guess it was at least 10-12 years ago – always love seeing your amazing projects and loved the pics of your family Halloween parties!
