I got upstairs yesterday before it got hot and finished up the borders on my little gold half square triangle table runner. Now I am all set to mail this trio of toppers off to my quilter. I am really looking forward to getting these into my late summer/early fall decorating rotation.
Decorating with small quilts is such fun for me. Do you enjoy it as well? At this stage of my life, I have so many large-sized quilts, making more of them just doesn't make sense. I have given quilts to absolutely every single person in my family, and I doubt anyone needs another one. I still love keeping up with new fabric collections and using them in projects, so making smaller quilts is the answer for me. With each new season I can use three or four small table toppers or runners in table vignettes and satisfy my desire to keep current and up to date with something new. My budget is also reduced now that I am retired, so it helps to buy a layer cake or a fat eighth bundle and save money on what I do decide to buy.
So many quilt patterns can easily be adapted to make smaller or fewer blocks. I will be sure and talk more about this in a future post.
Have a great weekend, and stay cool!

I love tablerunners and small quilts too. I have lots of fall and Christmas- I need to make some for spring and summer. I like to use my little seasonal quilts on my doors. I just love using them in many spaces.
That butterscotch half square triangle runner is very striking. It’s so funny how the simple traditional designs come out so awesome. Guess you can tell I’m not a modern quilt lover. I like simple quilting too! Enjoy your new projects!

These are cute! I love the nine-patch. How big are the squares? You have me thinking!

‘Butterscotch’ is the perfect name for that HST runner! Good thought, fellow commenter, Susan! Meanwhile, you’re having a heat wave & over here in Wyoming we had a dusting of SNOW on a nearby mountain yesterday afternoon! Go figure! Have a good weekend!

Love your little quilts! I want to start making them. I figure I can use a new fabric line without breaking the bank.

I mostly make table runners, toppers and wall quilts. Mainly I still work full-time so I get a finish fairly quick. Plus they don’t cost much to make. I also love to change all my quilts on almost a monthly basis. These are quick satisfaction!!

Lovely arrangement on your runner. I need to heed your thoughts about smaller quilts. I have stacks of big quilts I never tire of. I just haven’t done every one on my mental list just yet.

As you know, I’ve been making small and tiny quilts for several years and find them a delight. They make good gifts, too, as everyone has table tops and walls. I sew hanging triangles on the backs so they can be used either way. It’s fun to m use seasonal and holiday fabrics, too.
A book I love is “101 Fabulous Small Quilts” from Martingale, 2013.
Hugs!

I’ve hit your stage–plenty of large quilts, and a slightly lower budget for quilting. Occasionally I make a big one if it really strikes me, but normally I make lap-sized quilts and smaller. Everyone can use a quilt to cozy up and read or watch TV in, and it doesn’t have to be enormous. Plus I quilt my own quilts on my bernina, and those big ones get harder on my shoulders the older I get.

I find that I, too, am enjoying making smaller quilts – table runners, table toppers, lap-size quilts, etc. And I, too, don’t have the money available to me since I retired so I am trying to use up more and more of my stash. Some I’ve had for quite a while, but I still really love most of it. Once in a while I come across some fabric that has me trying to remember why I would purchase that color or pattern..
