Thank You

I do have a new post for today titled Are They Kidding?, but before I get to that….

I need to say a sincere thank you to all of you dear friends who took the time to comment on my unexpected medical drama over the weekend.  It was sudden and shocking and brought up many more issues than my particular medical condition.  How many of you told me that you are or have been in a similar situation.  Afraid to seek the medical attention you need due to the cost, forced to take a smaller dose of the prescription medications your doctor prescribed, going deep into debt to pay for unanticipated medical expenses.  It is shocking, and sad and much more prevalent than I had realized.  Something must change in this country. Too many of us are suffering.

I appreciate your caring good wishes more than I can say.  And, happily I am back to normal.  Better than normal actually, because my husband drove me straight to the pharmacy, where we shelled out over $500 for my asthma meds.  I am back on the full dose.  Maybe Cobra will reimburse us when it kicks in.  Who knows.

OK, now on to  Are They Kidding?

Are they kidding (2)

My son took this photo on one of his bike rides along the beach in Monterey.   Evidently the path he was riding his bike on is an official Tsunami Evacuation Route.  Imagine yourself on the path, the 900 foot waves cresting behind you…  If you are driving your vehicle, are you going to keep the speed down to 15 MPH?
Huh?  Are you?

If a sign is about to be destroyed by an imminent natural disaster, can you ignore it?

Who comes up with these things?

  1. Like I’d be going 15 mph when there was a wall of water behind me! LOL The signs that cracks me up are the ones on the 5 freeway down by San Diego with the man running with is family in tow warning us of pedestrians on the 5 freeway! LOL Glad you got your full meds and are feeling better!

  3. COBRA most definitely should reimburse you for the meds you had to pay out of pocket. Once you make your premium payment they should immediately make you whole back to the date you lost coverage.

  5. I’m glad you got your meds…I’m sorry they were so expensive!
Is any of this medication something you can get from your doctor as a sample? I know someone who works for a doctor that will regularly give alot of asthma/other medication to their patients with out medical insurance or prescription plans so that the patient has no out of pocket cost for the medication. It can’t hurt to ask. The only problem would be, not all of the medications are available as samples.

  7. It’s nice to get some support and especially nice for your readers (like me)to know you’re doing well now and getting the meds you need. Sending comforting thoughts… *karendianne.

  9. Nicole,
So glad you are back to normal. That is quiet a scare. One that we all dred, or just don’t want to think about. Take care and know that there are many people out there that have you in their prayers.

  11. When I took the photo, I kind of wondered what unit of measurement the sign was referring to? Like 15 what? If there was a tsunami you can bet I would be going Mach 15. 🙂

  13. Nicole: I’m so glad that after all you went through, you can still see humor in the world. When things go so wrong, sometimes that’s all we have left.
I think Ahren is right. Mach 15 sounds better than 15 mph!

  15. Glad you are feeling better. I quickly glanced over all the last posts and someone mentioned contacting the Pharma co. if you cannot afford your meds. Definitely do so. My husband was on a drug that was $4100+ per 4 hr bag for 96 hours. Unfortunately, even with that, he did not make it, but there is financial help out there, you have to ask for it!

  17. Wow Nicole! I have been kind of out of the loop here and trying to catch up and then I read your previous post. Glad to hear you’re ok. I’m back at work barely treading water and I’m having some surgery in a couple of weeks and trying to get ahead of things. I’m actually looking forward to some down time after surgery, that’s how busy I’ve been. It’s bad when you look forward to surgery to get time off!

  19. Thanks for the chuckle! I’m so glad you are feeling better.
(Also, sometimes if you tell your doctor you do not have perscription insurance, they are able to perscribe a different, cheaper medication that works just as well. Many doctors just get used to perscribing one certain medication without a thought to the price.)

  21. It’s really a shame isn’t it how those who “have theirs” are fighting so hard against coverage for everyone. Just strange to me. Glad you got your meds, please call med companies and see if you qualify for reduced rates, it’s worth it! Hubby’s company tripled our co-pay for meds after the Bktcy and new owners and I took my med list into my doc and we went over every one and either switched to generic or found a way around taking it. Had to… we’re lucky since he didn’t lose his job or coverage.
    Glad you are feeling better!
