The Design Wall is Filling Up!

IMG_1249

I have completed 16 hoop blocks for my Metro Hoops project, using the Quick Curve Ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful.  I have to admit I earned a few more grey hairs when I started this project, but am happy to say I persevered and with the help of a smarter-than-me reader, licked the issues I was having with these blocks.

It makes me so happy to see them on the design wall!  The fabric collection is so cheerful and bright, and I am satisfied with the way the corner squares are matching up.  More than half of them are perfect, and the rest are just a thread or so off.  It isn't noticible, even with the strong contrast between the dark brown and cream.  Let's hope when I go to sew the blocks and rows together things will line up.

I didn't order enough brown corner square fabric, yet again, so am waiting for it to arrive so I can finish this project.  I was thinking of making a total of 25 blocks, but am running out of steam.  I may just make the quilt as shown in the pattern, for a total of 20 blocks, four across and five down.  The finished size will be something like 60 x 75", which is a respectable sized quilt.

Here is another opportunity for custom quilting!  What would be a cool design for those hoop centers?

  4. Looks wonderful, glad you persevered! I not the best at choosing quilt patterns, but a variation on a compass rose would look nice in those hoops!

  7. Applause, applause at yet another successful quilt despite the challenge Metro Hoops has been!!! Looks to me as if it could be finished at the size shown, but you may want it to be larger and then there IS more brown fabric en route!
Oh, the choices of what to quilt in the hoops is endless! Would you want something modern like bubbles, a flower, a spiral, or a wreath like quaint design? Is your quilter one who has wonderful ideas to suggest? Have fun deciding!
    Hugs!

  10. Very impressed with your progress! Your quilt will be gorgeous especially if you add some custom quilting in the centers. I say go for 25 blocks but make sure you have enough brown before you start 🙂

  13. Metro Hoops is looking great. Love your Urban Winter. By the time these quilts are done, you’ll probably have mastered curves with that rule!

  16. It is beautiful! I like the size you have it at now. It’s good to stretch yourself and learn new things… but I think you earned a easy project next!

  22. Looks great — good for you, despite all the hassles, you stuck with it and learned something in the process.
