The Most Beautiful Fabric Ever.

Rouenerries by French General  for Moda is the most beautiful fabric ever.  I haven't been this excited about a fabric collection in years.  And I get very excited about new collections from my favorite designers on a regular basis.  This collection is just so …different.  Those are the faded reds and pinks above.  Here are the greens and lights.

And this is my favorite piece in the entire collection.  I think.

You won't be able to buy this fabric until October.  Do not be afraid of the name.  Roo-en-er-reese.

I happen to have a couple of jelly rolls that were sent to me as a secret stunt sewing mission for a well known quilt pattern designer.  Usually when I make a quilt with a particular fabric collection I am pretty much done with it when the quilt is completed.  I have no desire to use the group in a second project, I just want to move on to the next new fabric group that is out on the market.

Not so with this fabric collection.  No sirree-Bob.  I could make several quilts, table toppers, bags, and anything else you can think up with this fabric.  I LOVE it.  Love it.  I want to redecorate my house with it, wear it, eat it.  Well, maybe not eat it.  But I sure am hooked.

French General is a company that has been around for awhile.  The aesthetic of the company is the brain child of a lovely woman named Kaari Meng.  Please go check out the website and especially play some of the videos. Kaari is an inveterate collector, and is so interesting you won't believe it.   Her company is known for its "boho rural style" with a strong French influence as to style.  My impression is that she got her start with jewelry design.  The company sells books, paper, jewelry, and most notably to me, textiles.  The Rouenneries fabric collection was inspired by the cotton fabrics made in Rouen, France during the 18th century.

They even have a blog! The Warp and the Weft.  Please go check it out.  I know you will be as drawn in as I was.  Don't you just love a new discovery?

  3. I have had my eye on this collection for a while now. And like you I haven’t been this excited about a new line in a long, long time. Lucky you to have it to sew with already…can’t wait to see what you make.
I also heard somewhere that FG’s second line is even more gorgeous!

  5. I have adored their fabric for so long and everything is so lovely you can hardly decide what to buy. I know what you mean about wanting it eveywhere. When you find a line that is as lovely as this you want to cover everything in the house(and yourself) with the stuff. Lucky you.
Can’t wait to see what comes of the stunt sewing.

  15. Thank you for posting this beautiful fabric line. I’d seen it on my favorite shop’s website, but their photos didn’t do it justice, and I was debating a purchase. Now that I’ve seen it through YOUR eyes, I must have. Order sent…now to wait until October! Thanks, Nicole!

  25. Do you think I need to stop buying fabric and actually learn to sew/quilt? I LOVE this as well..it makes me happy just looking at it, but I have yet to get my sewing machine out of the box. It was one of those homemaking skills I never mastered, but want to…with my daughters. 🙂

  29. I am actually glad you posted these pictures because I didn’t think this line really had PINK. I wanted to use it for a quilt for a dear friend but PINK would not do at all. I really thought there was red and faded red and a teeeeeeny bit of pink in some of the flowers. I love it but dear friend would not.
