This Is So Much Fun

Don't Fence Me In 2:23
I spent much of the day yesterday waiting for promised snow (that never arrived) and sewing blocks for the Don't Fence Me In quilt. These blocks are fun, and I enjoy making them. I am afraid I am going to run out of light fabric though. I have to think this through and see if I can come up with some extra prints to fill in those lights. I just know I will run out. This quilt might end up smaller than planned.

The weather is weird. The weather service got us all hyped up to expect massive amounts of snow, but it just hasn't materialized. It is cold as a good thing though, but it isn't raining/snowing. I thought I'd wake up to snow on Thursday morning, but that didn't happen.

Souffle
Now, here is something that came out absolutely perfect. I made a cheese souffle this week that was the best thing I have ever eaten. It is an old recipe from Sunset Magazine that I used to make years ago. Now that I have a new oven with a temperature that I can count on to stay constant I gave the recipe another try. Oh my gosh, it was so good. Look at my husband, standing back in complete awe. This was the real deal. Advanced cooking, but so worth the fuss. I used Gruyere cheese. Best thing ever.

I am looking forward to an unstructured weekend, where I can make my own schedule. How about you? Do you have anything amazing planned? I may have to make another souffle.

  1. It’s nice to have blocks you’re enjoying that aren’t terribly complicated! It IS stressful to be thinking you may not have enough lights, though! I’ll bet your beautiful soufflé’ was delicious! Nothing amazing going on here this weekend, but we did have about 8″ of snow & our temperatures have been subzero for almost 4 days!

  7. okay, now I want to bake something. that looks delicious.
it is soooo cold but we haven’t lost our power. we had thunder and lightning last night. thankfully, the pup just sleeps through it.
I have a sewing room that needs a major cleaning and organizing(again) but I’m sure I’ll ignore it and work on my applique. I have almost all the blocks done so I can start putting the quilt together. I’m trying to get UFOs done and off to the quilter.

  10. Nicole, it’s been ages since I’ve made a souffle, this looks so good! I think my old recipe had asparagus in it (cut up, cooked and patted dry before adding). Try it if you like asparagus!

  13. Hello, I’m trying to find the pattern to the little thread catcher basket you made. Can you help with that?

  16. Your quilt top-in-progress looks great, and I’m sure you’ll figure out a great solution to your light fabric issue.
That souffle’ is truly a show stopper! Here in SoCal we are getting your rain (ha ha ha) and it is mingling with hail, depending on the temperature. It was really fun yesterday to watch out our office windows to see it change from hail to rain, back to hail, and back to rain. Have you seen the news clips that the beach cities are even getting hail? Crazy!!

  19. We in southern Michigan got the ice storm and half our city is still without power. We lost power for about 5 hours but now our friends have moved in for the weekend as they won’t get it until Sunday night. Alas, this means no sewing but good conversations!
I do like that rail fence!

  22. Spectacular soufflé!! Gruyere is so delicious!! Making me inspired to do some more cooking. Quiet weekend for a change. A little stitching and a lot of lazy which was much needed after the previous two weekends. Crammed with playing services, going to see my son ring handbells at another church, some entertaining and my Broadway touring season tickets with a production of “To Kill A Mockingbird” starring Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch. Weeks before had been SIX about Henry VIII’s wives. Both SO good. Makes me want to drag out the book again.
