I finished my two mini Roundabout table toppers from the Miss Rosie Schnibbles pattern of the same name! Keep in mind, I cut the size of my topper down to only nine blocks so it would fit in the center of my kitchen table.
Here is Numero Uno:
And guess what? I love it best of the two table toppers. I don't think the fabric looks all that dated after all, and the soft colors are fine for St. Patrick's Day and will work well into spring. I bought some Portuguese majolica cabbage plates at Marshall's ($4.99 each) and they go with this topper much better than with the other one.
This topper is pretty scrappy, and all from my "Green" stash tub. Several of the pieces are from an In The Beginning collection from maybe 10 years ago. Or more…
The thing I am proudest of—I stipple quilted it all by myself!!! Who knew? I have never been a real great example of a "stay within the lines" kinda gal, so stippling suits me to a T. I have a few gigantic wild stitches, but overall things are pretty even and the results are passable. I had fun doing it, as long as I remembered to breathe and not hunch my shoulders.
Here is Numero Dos:
Brighter, funkier, maybe more fun. Less traditional, that's for sure. This fabric is Origins by Basic Grey for Moda. I used some of my bolt of Kona Snow (my Go-To white) for the background. As you can see, I don't have the binding quite stitched down yet. And I stipple quilted this one too!
I was thinking of giving this one to my daughter Sara. I will see if she comments that she wants it first though!
Be sure you check in with me on Sunday, my scheduled day on the Scrap Basket Sensations blog tour. I will be giving away a copy of the book and showing the project I have been working on.

I like both of your table toppers but really like the lime green one. Great job on getting the finished.

I think they are both beautiful, but I think I’m a little more partial towards the Origins example. Good job, you got them done fast!

Bottom left corner, I used some of the very same In the Beginning fabric, but in the pink colorway, in my daughter’s baby quilt. She’s 9 now, so you’re spot on with your estimation of how old it is. I probably have a few scraps left. Makes me wonder how old the oldest fabric in my stash actually is…..

Love them both! I have some scraps like the first one from In The Beginning! That’s how long I keep my scraps too 🙂
You have inspired me to make one of these!

I like the more modern one a lot. BUT the traditional one looks a lot more like Spring to me too..I really like it. Like you I have a round table..I think I’ll give this one a try..good idea to just cute down a bigger pattern.

they both turned out nice, but I’m partial to the Origins one (but I’m a sucker for anything from Basic Grey!)
You cranked those out fast!

Your two Roundabouts are just wonderful!! I love them both, but for different uses. Congratulations and applause on quilting them yourself, too!!!!!!!!!!!

They are both very sweet but I’m partial to Numero Uno. I don’t think it looks dated – it’s scrappy and fun.

You did a beautiful job quilting both! I always have to tell myself to breathe! I swear, otherwise I hold my breath the entire time I quilt!

Wow love how these quilts turned out. I really like the first one best. It says “Spring”! Can’t beat In the Beginning.

Hi Nicole: Creative use of scraps with your table toppers. Good idea to make a quilt that will be used immediately. Both greens turned out lovely. I have a feeling Sara will be interested. Thanks for the idea. Think I will mosey on over to Quilt Hollow. I am looking forward to this blog tour set up with folks I like to follow regularly. All are sew-creative.

I really like the modern one! Both are pretty but something about that brighter fabric! Well done on your quilting too!

Your table toppers look great! I liked the first one and then I saw the second one and now I’m not sure which I like better. There is a green with pink flower print in the first one from ITB that I used on my granddaughter’s baby quilt. I think the line was called Cabbage Rose or something like that. Great job Nicole and Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you too! (a little early)

I used some of the first set of fabric, I love it. I like its colors better than the second, but I like traditional things. Love the little pattern.

Ahhh….both are beautiful in their own way! I can see how Numero Uno might be easier to match with dishes and other decorations. I’m sure Sara will absolutely love the Origins version. How fun for you to get both of them done!

I can’t decide which I like better – congratulations on the quick production and on your machine quilting – looks great and might inspire me to give it a go. If Sarah doesn’t want the Origins I’ll be happy to take it off your hands (lol).

YES! LOVE! WANT!

Those are both so pretty! How cheerful they will look on your lovely wood table. Good work on the stippling–it’s instant gratification to see it all flow from your needle.

I love the soft green of your first quilt and don’t think it looks dated at all. The pattern looks great in the brighter green as well. Congrats on the stippling. I think the best way to get into it is to start with a few smaller projects. Practice makes perfect! lol

i’m so happy Sara was on the ball this morning and claimed her mini roundabout! I was confused when you thought the first one was dated, I thought it was lovely and wondered if I would ever be able to be “hip” enough to spot dated fabric!! What a relief to find out you think it’s lovely now too! Roundabout dos has a younger feel to it, so Sara! Great job on them both. This is the only Carrie pattern I’ve ever struggled with, my roundabout ended up in my round temporary storage container.

If Sarah doesn’t respond… you can put my name in for it!!! I actually like numero uno as much as numero does! Looks like you have been having fun with Roundabout… and using your stash! I wonder what else you might have your stash out for???

Nice job, I really like the second one but I love bright colors.

Glad to hear you changed your opinion of the first topper. I really like it and don’t think it is dated – just a soft, pretty, soothing green. Quite versatile. I also like the 2nd one but it has a whole different feel to it. I see your daughter wasted no time in claiming it!!

Love the green table toppers. You are always so creative with your stash! I stop by often but for some reason I have a hard time with my computer cooperating when I try and leave a comment..maybe this time it will work. 🙂 I really enjoy seeing all the beautiful quilts you make!!

They are both fabulous. I need something green for my front door for March. When you stipple/meander, just think about making dog bone shapes, that will keep you moving in all directions. Great job!

Beautiful job on both toppers. Love the stippling – I know what you mean about the hunched shoulders though (I find myself biting my tongue, too). I love the colors in the lighter topper. Although the darker looks more like St. Paddy’s Day.

Nicole,
You did a lovely job with your stippling (I enlarged it so I could see your stitches better.) What kind of machine did you use to do your free motion with? I bought a Bernina Aurora 440 with the BSR just so I could do some of my own free motion quilting; ask me how many I’ve quilted? Zero would be right; I’m scared!!

Love both of your toppers, but the top one just screams SPRING to me! Great job on the stippling … your all ready for both St. Pat’s day and spring/Easter! I think I even have some of those fabrics in my stash!

Hi, Nicole – I really like the first one with the “vintage” fabrics. I wonder if you could comment on a problem I’m having. I’ve been buying some of the wonderful new fabric, such as Central Park, for a wedding quilt for my niece. I am struggling though with picking a pattern. The new fabrics are so awesome that the awesomeness (?) will get lost when they’re cut up into small pieces. How do you match fabric to a pattern? This seems like a silly question as I write it but I’d really like to know how you do it since you always get it just right.
Thanks,
Karen L.

How fun. Love them both!!! You have a green stash?!?! I’m green with envy – sorry, couldn’t resist the pun. I’m working on a 2 color quilt (greens and neutrals) and have totally run out of greens.

Your table toppers are beautiful. LOVE the green colors. I’ve heard about Schnibbles before but haven’t seen any quilts or anything more than the name mentioned. I might have to find out more about those patterns. Thank you for showing us these.

Wow! The “new” green looks so much different, but I still like the “old” green. I still have a couple of the fabrics you used in that one!
Your machine quilting looks great, too! Stippling is so much fun.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow on the blog tour!

I like both table toppers. The first one is my favorite – St Patrick’s Day into Spring. Congratulations on your stippling. I’m a newish quilter and stitch in the ditch seems like a chore to me. Free motion is so much fun and there are so many possibilities for designs. I just found your blog and enjoyed reading the archives.
