Those of you who read my blog know that this summer before I Became Gainfully Employed, I had a goal of finishing a quilt top each Friday. I have a lot of quilt tops to show for my summer, and you see in the photo above how I store my yet-to-be-quilted finished tops. The only tops that get to have hanger space in the closet are the ones that are DONE. My unfinished tops are stored in labeled plastic project boxes. I am extremely organized about this little habit.
To my dismay recently, one of my unfinished tops went missing. It wasn't just any quilt top, it was the unfinished center of my Web Sampler Challenge quilt. I joined the challenge months and months ago and dutifully made my twelve sampler blocks and thirteen or so pieced alternate blocks, and sewed them all together into an almost finished top. I was having some problems with the pattern instructions for the border, got frustrated and put the quilt away. A couple of weeks before the challenge deadline I decided to get out the Web Sampler top and get it finished. Hmmm, where was that thing?
I searched all my project boxes. No Sampler top. I searched my assorted tote bags. No Sampler top. I even looked under and behind the bed in my sewing room. I suspected Sophie and Ozzie of sneaking off with it and burying it in the back yard. It even occurred to me that since I had been so vocal in my criticism of the pattern designer that she may have sent evil minions to steal the top to teach me a lesson.
All my friends and family have been asking me, "Did you find that quilt top yet?". To tell you the truth, it was embarrassing. I don't lose quilt tops. Many of you more optimistic friends told me "Don't worry Nicole, it will turn up when and where you least expect it". Sure. Right. I tell you, I had just about given up that I would ever see that thing again when……
I opened my closet to put some backing fabric up on the shelf, when I thought I saw something. Could it be? Gasp!!!!!
Do not even ask me how that unfinished top got in with all the finished ones. I would never in a million years have thought to look for it there. What do you know?

The evil minions felt guilty and returned it! Glad you found it. I’m sure you are relieved!

So glad you found it. I’m telling you, running through the house muttering to yourself, “where did I put that, I know I saw it right here” makes everyone doubt your sanity! So glad it resurfaced….bad quilt!

There is nothing worse than having a quilt top go MIA! After all of that work! Just another sign that all of us quilters stay up way too late or that we are losing our minds! Glad that you found it!

Ha! I am so glad you found it. Yeah!!!!!!
I found my pattern yesterday. Hanging on the thumb tack on the wall just where it was pretty much intended to be.
Hateful to lose things, just hateful! But such a relief to find them. Congratulations.

Glad you finally find that quilt top…be sure you scold it so it doesn’t hide in the wrong closet again ;o).
Normally I’m an organised person, too …but as I’ve quite little storage room for my quilting stuff you can often find me searching for things that are simply missing…one time I even searched for a BIIIG storage box (with the nearly finished top for my sister’s birthday in it) – it turned out I used it as base for my tv, lol…and I even suspected the poor workmen to have accidentially thrown it away {I’m glad I never told them…!!!}.
Hugs, Julia
P.S.: it’s so lovely to see that Ozzie & Sophie go together so well ;o)

YEA! Well, as they say, it was in the last place you’d look – although once found, why would one continue looking? LOL So glad you found it. Still, I’d keep my eye out for those “evil minions”! SuzK

Kind of like finding a gallon of milk in the pantry. Who would do something like that? Oh yeah – it was me *s*

Lots of finished tops and they look so pretty all lined up. Glad you found the missing UFO. When those things happen to me it’s usually because I’m already 5 steps ahead of what I’m doing and believe me it happens a lot.

LOL,,,I told you it was right under your nose. Don’t you hate it when that happens? lol, so glad you found it. I haven’t started working on mine again. I am sure you will have your finished before mine is ever started up again.

I loose things from time to time. Put away for safe keeping and then taking forever to remember exactly where that safe keeping place was exactly. Sometimes out of sight means out of mind for months, even years! I have a clothes drying rack where I hang all of the quilt parts and fabrics for the project I am working currently working on. I cover it with a sheet to keep the dust off…yes, it can hang there long enough to collect dust, lol. Nice that you found your wandering quilt project. At least it was hanging all nice and tidy, just waiting for you to call it back to the sewing table. 🙂
